"Thank you for coming in, Logan." The doctor that Laura recommended greets me, before giving Pinoe a nod. "Let me see this ankle then."

After a ten minute chat, a tedious and painful examination, and an x-ray, my doctor was ready to give me my diagnosis and judging by the grim look on his face it wasn't be good news.

"Okay...how well do you take bad news?" He asks.

"Not well at all." Pinoe answers. "Oh, you mean her?"

"I'm pretty sure he did." I chuckle at my teammate, happy that she's here to lessen the tension. "I'm good, just tell me straight up, doc."

"Okay, well, there's severe bruising starting at your Fibula and down the Tibula. You have a fracture on Calcaneus, which is this bone here." He points to the chart, showing me all the locations of my injuries.

"Will she need surgery?" Pinoe asks before I get the opportunity to.

"Usually a fracture could heal on its own, but-"

"But what?"

"A lot of fractures can be treated without surgery, it would just mean you don't use that foot, at all, and hope that it heal properly alongside painkillers and-"

"Okay." I cut him off. "So, why can't we do that this time?"

"I'm afraid that during the incident your Calcaneal tendon was damaged."

"Her Achilles?" Megan asks, as if she didn't already know.

"I'm afraid so. It would make more sense to do the surgery to repair the tendon and the supporting structures of the foot. You'll be given painkillers, you'll have to use a splint, and once healed you may have to use a brace for extra support."

"Will I be able to play again this season?" I ask. My voice comes out smaller than I intended.

"I'm afraid the chances of that are slim. However it all depends on how successful the surgery is, and how your physical therapy goes."

"What do you want from me?" I ask Hope as we speak over the phone. I've been unable to shake her off me for the last hour, and so she has been scolding me for the last sixty minutes. Now I'm at practice.

"I want you to call her."

"She can call me, Hope."

"Oh, wow. Okay a couple things. One, she's busy with doctors because your messed up teammate fucked up her ankle, and two, stop being an immature b--" I hear her take a deep breath, trying to steady herself. "You messed up, O'Hara. It's that simple. You accused her  of cheating on you! Logan! The worst decision she's made since I've known her is to rep Canada, and you can hardly break up with her for that. Call her, let her talk, and sort your shit out."
