Chapter 3

✴I Promise I Won't Do Anything Stupid✴

Eleanor and Jim make their way to the lift, still holding hands. The lift doors open, revealing Spock, Eleanor and Jim step inside.

"Mr. Spock." Jim greets.

"Spock." Eleanor greets him as well.

"Captain. Eleanor." Spock says back.

There's a slight tension in the silence that falls, making Eleanor discreetly look at both of the men.

"I was..." Jim says.

"Perhaps there..." Spock says right over the top of him, the two look at each other sort of surprised.

"No, please." Jim says.

"Captain, after you. I insist.".

Jim looks down at his feet, Eleanor gives his hand a comforting squeeze, "After this mission, we should-we should sit down. I have something I need to talk to you about." Jim says, Eleanor can hear there is sadness in his voice.

"I as well have something to share." Spock responds.

It again falls silent, "We make a good team, right?" Jim asks, breaking the silence.

"I believe we do." Spock replies, just as the lift stops.

Jim and Spock both gesture for Eleanor to exit first, once she exits Spock gestures for Jim to exit next.

"I insist." Jim says, gesturing towards the door, so Spock exits, Jim following.

Eleanor makes her way towards her station, as she passes by Uhura she places her hand on her shoulder, making her turn around to look at Eleanor, seeing her friend she smiles.

"You doing okay?" Eleanor asks.

"I'll be fine." Uhura responds.

"Oh, once this is over, I've got something to tell you." Eleanor says with a smile, the more she thinks about it the more she gets excited.

"Okay?" Uhura says, sounding confused.

"Don't worry, it's something good, I promise." Eleanor says, giving her friend's shoulder a squeeze, then heading to her station.

Jim takes his seat, "Lieutenant Uhura, open the shipwide channel." he says over his shoulder.

"Yes, Captain." she responds.

"Attention, crew of the Enterprise. Our mission is straightforward. Rescue a crew stranded on a planet in uncharted space. Our trajectory will take us through an unstable nebula, a one which will disable all communications with Starfleet. We're going to be on our own. The Enterprise has something no other ship in the fleet has. You.", hearing the last bit makes Eleanor smile at her husband, it's times like this that remind her just how great of a captain Jim really is, "As we've come to understand there is no such thing as the unknown. Only the temporarily hidden. Kirk out.".

As Jim finishes his speech, they enter the nebula, shaking the ship every now and again.

"Readings indicate cloud density diminishing, sir." Chokov informs.

A planet comes into view, "This is Altamid. My ship is stranded here." the alien woman that had asked for their help says.

"Approaching Altamid. Class M Planet . Massive subterranean development, but limited to no life forms on the surface." Spock says from his station.
