Math Class

"Hey Miles! Can I look at what you're reading ?" Nick glanced over my shoulder to speak to Miles.

"Hey bro, why are you reading in a Maths lesson, anyway?" The confusion on Larry's face made me burst out laughing. "What's so funny, y/n?"

I stop laughing. "You're just always pulling funny faces and you don't even realise, it's hilarious."
"So can I look at your book, Miles?" Nick persisted.
Miles groaned. "Okay, but don't get your juice on it this time."
"I promise! I just wanna know what you're reading, that's all."

Outside of school, 3:15

School was over, and I was happy to be with my friends. I kicked the floor, waiting for Miles to get out of class. I live in a similar direction to him, so we've been walking home together recently. It's been pretty nice, but I'm not sure he thinks anything of it. The school classes tend to get let out within a 2 minute ratio.

We got let out the earliest today, since our English teacher is pretty nice.
I hear a cacophony of voices that seem to have escaped the madness of school.

I scan the group of students to find Miles' face. Unable to locate it, I returned to my thoughts.

All of a sudden, I feel someone stroking the back of my neck. My neck is pretty sensitive, so I turn around.

"Nick! Why were you doing that."

"I wasn't! It was Larry, I swear!" Larry giggles.
"You wanna walk home with us, dude?" Larry asks.
" No- I'm going to my Father's house, sorry."
"Oh." Nick grimaced. He knew why I disliked my father so much.
I get a tap on my shoulder. "Are we going, y/n?" Miles's soft voice was strange, it was nothing like how he spoke to the guys. I spin around, again.
"Okay, bye guys!"

Walking home with Miles.

"I'm pretty happy today, y/n. Would you like to know why?"
"Sure."
"Well you know how I want to be a defence attorney when I grow up?"
"Yeah, it's what your father does,
right?"
Miles blushes. "You listen more than the guys"
Realising that he's blushing, he covered his face anxiously.
I stifle a laugh.
"I guess I'm just a good listener."
Miles looked away awkwardly.
"We're getting pretty close to your house, y/n."
"Oh, yeah."
Miles turns towards me and looks into my eyes, almost searching for a reaction. Our hands brush and make contact. It's almost electrifying.

"So, I guess I'll see you Monday." Miles said softly.
"Well, it's Nick's 14th birthday party on Tuesday, I haven't got him a present yet, have you?"
"Nope." Miles looked down towards the floor. "We could.."
"Huh?"
"We could go buy one on Sunday,"
"Oh, sure!" My heart skips.
His eyes light up. "Then I could tell you all about my dad's defence!"
"Okay!"
"See you then, I guess."
I turn towards my house reluctantly, checking over my shoulder now and then to see if he looks back.
"Bye."

Your house. 3:40

"Y/N. Why did it take you so long? You are well aware that I was waiting for you to cook me dinner." My father appears around the corner with a merciless look.
"I was with a friend, father, sorry father."
"Sorry what?"
"Sorry...sir."
"Correct. I didn't raise you to be a petty daughter, now did I?" He spits.
"No sir."
I rush off to the kitchen, wanting to get away from my so-called father.
My head rests on the fridge. The cool metal almost settles my headache.
"I can't stand him."
Peering in the fridge, I see the correct items for my favourite meal: spaghetti bolognese.
Father might like this.
Using the ingredients, I make the bolognese and leave it on the heat. My eyes still hurt from the onions.
I can't help but stand near the cooking, it smells so good.
My father steps into the kitchen.
"Ah, spaghetti bolognese, I used to eat this when i was in the army."
Liar. You didn't join the army.
"Why did you make so much?" Father grimaced. "You can't possibly think that I would let you have some?"
"But father, I"
"SIR! You're pathetic. You have already gained so much weight! Why do you think I'm going to let you keep being fat?"
"I'm sorry, sir."
"Go to your room now. You impeccably ignorant child."
"But,"
"You know what happens now you've disagreed." A menacing look appears on my father's face.
"Oh, no, please!"
