I do not own Naruto characters. All credits or character goes to Masashi Kishimoto.

This is an AU. There are some slight changes to the characters. Hinata is not a full time housewife but also trains Chunins. In this timeline, Boruto is 16 years, Hinata and Naruto almost 40

This story contains a lot of fluff, some angst, not much drama tho (cause it's tiring) but all round Naruhina because yes

Boruto sat quietly by the stairs hoping his mother, Hinata won't notice his presence. It was already past his curfew but tonight a 16 year old Boruto wanted to 'greet' his father once he steps into the house. Himawari was long out and sound asleep in her room after a long day of Chunin training.

Boruto was about to doze off when he heard soft footsteps of his mother. Hinata had been waiting for her husband in the family kitchen with his meal prepared on their dining table. Boruto hid and silenced his phone immediately after checking the time. 12.59 am. His father was late again and like always, his mother would walk up to her room, only to see her beloved the next morning already taking off for work. Boruto understands his father's work requires him to constantly deliberate on heavy things and prioritize the village more than his small family itself. Boruto was once young and juvenile, always wanting his attention, never understanding his father's choice to neglect his family but slowly, Boruto knows his father is someone who cares for everyone, including the village. As soon as Boruto matured to learn about his father, he let go of the grudge he had on Naruto.

But tonight was not like one of those nights where Hinata would touch the door and eventually simply stroll back to her room. No, not tonight. Instead, Hinata went back to the dining room and waited there like she did before. Boruto could not think of anything else other than his mother wanting to stay up and wait for his father. Seeing how it was already the next morning, Boruto gave up and stretched his legs wanting to head back to his bed. That was when it struck Boruto. Their anniversary. His old man has spent the whole day without his mother.

Boruto clenched his fist together, the urge to punch his father and his anger boiled knowing how much his mother wanted his father's presence. Boruto wouldn't care if this happened on other days but not on their anniversary. Just as Boruto walked down casually and slid open the divider to see his mothers' surprised face. Boruto pretended by putting on a drowsy, tired looking face and manage to let out a smile. Hinata's face was not helping her much in hiding her sorrow. Her skin was a tad bit paler than usual, her nose and eyes slightly red and her cheeks flushed. Boruto grabbed a cup of cold water only to hand it to his mother. She took it and drank hoping to drown out her current emotions. Boruto didn't speak to his mother, he doesn't want to push anything but let his mother relax.

"Boruto, you are still up? Tomorrow's a big day, you're getting promoted to Jonnin level." She said between sniffles.

"Yeah, mom. It's great." He half-heartedly responded, still focus on his mothers' red eyes.

"You know, mom? It's getting late. Best that we go to sleep now..." Boruto gesturing to head back to their rooms.

Hinata smiled softly, holding tightly onto her phone.

"Boruto, you go..." Hinata was interrupted by her son.

"Mom, I know, I know. That you are upset dad isn't home but you can't do this to yourself." Boruto knelt on the floor, grabbing his mother's hand. He look intensely into her eyes and said,

"Mama, don't cry anymore please. I know you wait for dad every day and he is getting busier by the minute but know that dad loves you more than the world. I know that we rarely see him in the morning or at home and his job may cause dad to slightly put us aside but he loves us right? You always tell me that as a kid, mama."
