We are not lost,
We're just searching
We are always,
always searching for
Home.

"Where are we going, Micha?" Jeremy asked with a smile.

There was electricity coursing through their veins, the atmosphere was full of euphoria and adrenaline. The radio was humming tunes and the air caressed the boys' cheeks. Despite the energy radiating from the boys, they felt calm and at ease.

The sun wasn't gonna be up for a few hours and they were content with that fact.

The surreal vibe of a midnight car ride filled the boys with joy. Especially getting to share such activity with each other.

"I'm not sure yet." They were driving down a straight road sorrounded by trees, the moonlit sky accompanied the boys to their unknown destination. They had been planning on going star gazing for weeks.

"How about here?" Jeremy pointed to a small clearing off the side of the road. Michael smiled and turned the car.

"Perfect," he beamed. Jeremy blushed and smiled.

The soft rumbling of the motor slowed to a stop and the hum of the radio stopped. Michael took out the car's keys and put them in his hoodie pocket. The sudden silence left a buzz in their ears. Their energy was now contained by an unexplainable numbness, but it was still there.

When Jeremy opened the door he felt the cold air greet him and he took in a deep breath, content. The chill air filled his lungs and made itself at home.

The air carried the strong scent of the woods that sorrounded the small town that the boys lived in, the town had a hint of that smell as well, but definitely a lot more faint. Upon exhaling, the air was now warm and it left a small cloud of vapor.

Jeremy closed his eyes and took in the feeling of calmness and happiness. In times of need he longed for this state of mind, clear and tinted with a small amount of nostalgia.

Michael was setting up blankets in the back of his uncle's pick up truck, he'd asked to borrow it for this specific occasion.

"Jeremy, you coming?" Michael asked.

The boy was broken out of trance. As he walked, the caress of the wild grass and small flowers on his legs tickled him.

He climbed into the trunk and laid down. Michael smiled and did the same.

The peaceful state the were in cleared their heads as they silently stargazed, out here the stars shined bright and clear. Their minds were quiet and their bodies were close.

They knew that they were in the same state of mind, the atmosphere was tranquil and warm, despite the wind's temperature.

Jeremy kept his eyes on the stars as he reached out his hand to grab Michael's. Said boy, upon feeling the contact, turned to look at Jeremy, mesmerized.

Jeremy retuned the look and for a moment, as they intertwined hands, they felt the rest of the world disappear.

It was only them, illuminated by moonlight and staring at each other, the sound of their breaths accompanied by the crickets and the soft song of the air passing through leaves.

Michael closed his eyes and basked in the quiet.

His mind had woken up once again, in the back of his head he could hear a small voice.

Kiss him.

He slowly leaned in and Jeremy mirrored his actions, they stared into each other's eyes and before the gap was filled Michael could have sworn he saw the reflection of a shooting star on Jeremy's deep blue eyes.

Both boys closed their eyes and felt their lips touch. It was sweet and short, when they pulled away they pressed their foreheads together.

Jeremy pecked Michael's lips and the boy blushed. He felt Jeremy pull his body closer as he rested his head on Michael's chest and looked back at the stars.

Michael remembered Jeremy's question.

"Where are we going, Micha?"

Michael softly grinned.

Home.
