Tala and Koda sat by the fire with a lot on their minds. They were ready for the full moon but still felt underprepared and nervous. They had a few hours till it would be dark and the moon would rise. They didn't have anything to do and were left with their anxious thoughts. They tried talking here and there but didn't know what to talk about. They didn't want to think about transforming but at the same time they wanted to prepare themselves mentally.
They wished Shadow would have stayed. They wished they would transform already and not have to wait for the moon to rise. They tried chewing on herbs to pass the time, but two minutes went by. They tried reading but couldn't focus on their books. They would have cleaned the house but they had just recently cleaned and had nothing to work on.
Too much waiting and silence left Tala frustrated. She couldn't stand sitting there anymore. She had been craving meat more than ever that day and decided to go to the fridge. She walked across the floorboards in her fuzzy dark green socks to the kitchen. She opened the fridge, trying to ignore the stale smell as she stuck her head inside. She shuffled containers of food around looking for any meat. They had already eaten it all the last few days due to the closeness of the full moon.
Tala opened a few containers, one with rice and vegetables, one with potato salad, one with macaroni and cheese, one with fruit. They were all delicious food but weren't enough at this moment. She held onto the door of the fridge and glanced around the kitchen in thought. She really wanted meat but they didn't have any. Maybe she could go into town really fast. She knew it was a bad idea but she felt impulsive and didn't care to stop herself. She went to the door to put on her winter boots, coat, and scarf. Koda looked at her with worry and confusion. "Where are you going?"
"Oh. I'm just going into town really fast to get a meat sandwich. You know I need meat so I have the strength to transform tonight. Want anything?" Tala hoped he would just go with it.
Koda shook his head with shock. "What? No way. It's only a couple of hours till night you had meat earlier, just eat something else in the fridge."
Tala started to walk out. "I'll be fast I promise. I'm starving."
Koda tried to stop her before she walked out but she left too quickly. How could she leave like that without taking what he said into consideration? She could transform near the town or she could get caught by the hunter.
Koda was also worried about transforming by himself. Tala was too anxious to think about Koda at the moment. She walked quickly to town, avoiding what was on her mind by thinking of what food to get. She walked into the diner, quickly ordered and paid for a roast beef sandwich, and sat in a booth near the window. She looked outside at the sky. The sun was getting closer to the horizon, it was closer to setting than she realized. She tapped her foot nervously as she waited for her sandwich and realized this probably wasn't a good idea.
The waitress brought Tala's sandwich and she quickly took it, thanked her, and rushed out the door back to the house. She unwrapped it and ate as she walked back to the house.
"It's gonna be okay." Tala thought. She had plenty of time until dark.
After she finished her sandwich she felt a tingling in her gums. Oh no. She was not far away from transforming and she was still close to town. She quickly walked to the forest. Once she was out of sight she ran.
Back at the house, Koda started to feel changes too. His heart rate increased and his arms started to tingle. He quickly looked outside wondering if she was close. He couldn't transform alone. She had to hurry. He couldn't take waiting anymore. He threw on his coat and boots and ran outside. He listened carefully hoping he would hear her footsteps. The sun started to set. What if she was transforming and was close to town? He had to find her. He walked quickly in the direction of town.
