Tala watched in the rear view mirror as the sheriff and officer jumped out of their cars with their guns out.
Koda held her hand and put his head on her arm. Koda called his father to tell him what happened and that he was safe. Then they rushed back to Kita's house and parked the car behind the house. They told her parents everything as well.
They watched minutes later as the cop cars drove past the house with the hunter in the backseat. Tala leaned into Koda on the sofa as they sat wrapped in a blanket.
"It's over." Tears streamed down her rosy cheeks and stretched lips in relief.
Every werewolf was told of the arrest. Everyone could finally breathe. Everyone could go on hikes and go into town freely. No one had to watch out for the hunter's location. Koda and Tala could go home.
Meanwhile, across town Heath was relieved and guilty. He took his Mustang and sped through the forest backgrounds. Heath hit his steering wheel and grabbed a flask from his coat pocket. He took a few swigs as he swerved through curves on the road. The road and buzz seemed to clear his mind.
Heath sped to Astrid's house and slumped up to her front door. He pounded on the door and put his head on the doorframe.
"Heath what are you doing here?" she worried.
"I just want to talk."
Astrid creaked open the door and looked at Heath patiently.
"How could you do that to me?" he whimpered. "I just wanted to stop the hunter."
"Heath," Astrid began. "You were rude, arrogant, and aggressive. I get wanting others to help you accomplish what you think is good, but not everyone wants to be a werewolf. You were causing unnecessary tension with the other pack...With my friends."
"The other pack wasn't doing anything to stop the hunter. I didn't want to spend my life running." he muttered and looked up into her eyes.
"If we all would have compromised instead of fighting we may have been able to stop him sooner."
"Astrid you are beautiful" Heath smirked and played with her blonde hair. "and so smart." he whispered.
"Maybe if you help me I can figure out how to become a better person." he mumbled flirtily and grabbed her waist to pull her close.
"Heath." Astrid said with hesitance. "I can't."
"Let's keep each other company tonight." he brought his lips close to her neck and breathed warmly over her skin.
"Heath." she shivered. "I'm not sleeping with you."
"I didn't mean that." he ran his nose up her cheek. "We don't have to be lonely tonight."
She could sense he was on the verge of crying. Astrid wrapped her arm around his neck and pulled him into a hug. Astrid was confused. Part of her was still attracted to Heath. He seemed to be different with just her, like he wanted to change. Part of her was also attracted to Chase, but when Chase never made a move.
"Kiss me Astrid." he breathed and stroked her cheek.
"No one can know." she replied.
"Okay." he smiled and ran his hands through her hair.
Astrid pulled him inside by his shirt and closed the door. She pushed him back against it and kissed him with urgency. She snuck him up to her room to kiss him for an hour and be touchy. She said he could stay the night as long as he snuck out before her parents got back from a trip. Heath pulled Astrid on top of him to lay down and kissed her neck softly. She nuzzled her head into his neck.
"I'm sorry for everything." he whispered and stroked her hair.
"Really?" she whispered with a smile.
He smirked. "I want to be loved, not feared. It feels so much better."
Astrid held onto Heath and they fell asleep.
