Tala and Koda met up with Shadow outside their house and she began to finish teaching them how to transform at will. She took them outside and told them to stand still. They couldn't help but fidget.
She told them to focus on what they were feeling and to search for their inner wolf. They thought about how they felt about finding a pack, having a new home, and about being in love and inexplicably happy. They finally learned how to transform.
Shadow explained that transformation was very instinctual and natural, but that they must be careful. Werewolves are highly likely to transform when they have strong emotions. Anger is the most dangerous emotion for werewolves because it is hard to control. Werewolves must try their best to be slow to irritability and aggression.
Once they both learned transformation they agreed to help hold the territory. They were asked to watch over the town that night. They headed out to the forest to Shadow and Oliver's house where they agreed to meet. On their dark walk to the forest, Tala mulled over what the night might hold. The pack hadn't told her much about their experiences keeping the territory and she grew to be more and more nervous.
They arrived at the house and spotted Daisy with an unfamiliar girl inside by the window. The girl had dark brown hair with red stripes in two french braids, a stud in her nose, a black shirt with holes, a buffalo plaid flannel that was rolled up, several bracelets, and thick black boots.
Koda knocked on the window and the girls grabbed their coats and scarves. They shivered as they walked outside and zipped up their coats. The unfamiliar girl reached out her hand.
"I'm Blue, Hugo's sister...You're the new members?" She said casually.
They shook her hand and said their names before walking behind the house to the forest.
"I dig the necklace." Blue nodded at Tala.
Tala asked how long they planned on circling the town and Daisy said for about an hour. She said that the other werewolves had normal lives as well and didn't typically try anything too late at night.
"I'll be out here for about an hour but mom said I have to be home by 11 because it's a school night." Blue grumbled to Daisy.
Tala pointed out how cold she was. She didn't have on as much apparel as everyone else.
"Yeah." Blue said as she scanned Tala's outfit. "Next time you should probably wear more. It gets super cold at night." She offered Tala her scarf.
Tala would have worn more if she had more. She didn't say that though out of embarrassment.
They walked a few hundred feet and started walking around the edge of town, looking for footprints and listening for strange sounds. They talked some but mostly focused on looking for the other wolves. The night air was bitter and Tala huddled close to Koda as they walked.
"Does the pack guard town all winter?" Tala shivered.
"It depends on if the other pack keeps pushing. We haven't seen them for a while so we may stop for winter." Daisy said as she raised her yellow coat hood.
They walked a few miles around town past several houses and the coast. They had a half of a mile left until they reached Shadow's house. They heard huffing and movement a few hundred feet away.
"Transform now." Daisy said.
"Already on it." Blue replied.
Tala closed her eyes and connected with her wild side before transforming with the others. Daisy, which had a reddish brown coat, walked to the front and signaled for them all to follow. They trudged behind her as she headed towards the sound.
