Ben returned to the house and told them that the sheriff was looking into the case. He took the dagger for evidence and would go to look at the house. The police department in town was not used to doing a lot of crime-solving so the case may take a while. The sheriff wanted absolute proof that it was Fred so he was guaranteed a spot in jail.
"Well. I hope he is caught soon. I want to be with Koda again since you kicked him out." Tala told Ben madly in the kitchen.
"I'm sorry that you miss him but it's for the best." Ben replied calmly.
"You don't get to come here after everything that happened and tell me what is best. I love Koda and I don't want to be without him. You scared him off." Tala chipped.
"You are only 19 years old and he is just your boyfriend. Right now you need to be safe and taken care of. You and Koda aren't serious enough to live together anyways. I just don't want you to get hurt."
"I can't believe you." Tala replied irritated. Tala walked to the guest room, shut the door, and cried on her bed.
She thought she had gotten past the annoying stage of being young and living at home, feeling so trapped with nowhere to go. She was starting to regret not going with Koda. She wanted him to be the first one to cave in. She wanted him to show her just how much he cared about her. She felt unloved by Koda. How could he just up and leave her?
The next week meant loneliness and frustration for both Tala and Koda. All they wanted was to be with each other, but they didn't give in. Tala would spend the day alone at the barn, thinking about the conversations they had there and how she missed him so much. She wished she could distract herself, but the only thing she could think about was Koda.
She was starving for his love and craving his attention. She wished he was there and not miles away. He wasn't there to see her cry and isolate herself in her room. He wasn't there to talk to until 2 in the morning. He wasn't there to hold her hand. There was nothing she could do to see him. She just had to give it time. Waiting was the worst thing she could think of. She wanted him now.
How she wanted to just run free with Koda like before. She couldn't even go on walks anymore because of the hunter. She spent some time with Hugo, Cambria, and Astrid. They had to hang out at someone's house because Tala couldn't go in public places. Cambria and Hugo were still together and thriving. They were crazy about each other. It made Tala hurt to see them holding hands and kissing. Isn't is odd how seeing people be happy can make you so sad.
The semester was getting close to being finished for Astrid and Cambria. They were already stressed out about their exams, but they also had to worry about the full moon and the hunter. Two weeks after he left, things turned around for Tala.
Her parents collected the small amount of money they had saved to buy her a used car and a cellphone. She couldn't believe they did that for her. She was so happy. Now she could call Koda's house phone and drive to see him.
Ben felt bad that he was the reason Koda wasn't here. Ben was only trying to protect Tala but he hurt her. Sometimes we do things thinking it's what's best, but sometimes we are wrong. Tala's father made a lot of mistakes over the years. It would take time for him to change. It would take time to mend things with Tala and Kita. Tala understood that. Things may be rough now, but they would work through it.
