Much had occurred in a single night, starting with a fight, then discovering a possible traitor, wounds, and the addition of a werewolf to the already large amount in the small town.
The next day the pack decided to meet at the barn and talk about everything that had happened and make sure everyone was okay. Shadow agreed that they needed to talk to Cambria about everything she saw and about her fate. They also knew they needed to figure out Astrid's loyalties and maybe get more information about the other pack and its intentions.
Hugo brought Cambria home from the hospital. She had made a speedy recovery to the doctor's amazement and was sent home the day after the fight. Hugo didn't push her to say anything just yet. He wanted to see if she would say anything first.
She was quiet for the most part throughout the day but acted a tad different. She didn't welcome his affection or attention as much as usual and wanted space. He knew she wasn't completely oblivious of the events from last night, but he didn't know how much she knew. It made him anxious not knowing if she even liked him anymore possibly knowing what he was.
He tried to be his goofy self as much as he could to make her feel better and he managed to make her laugh a few times like old times. He didn't want things to drastically change. He desperately wanted for it to be just as good and even hoped that things may be even better now that they were both werewolves.
She was on his couch and he was sitting on the floor playing a video game.
"Hugo?" she said later that night, after not speaking for a couple of hours.
"What is it?" He said with curiosity, not looking back from his game.
"I don't know whether to believe what I saw last night." she continued.
He saved his game and came to sit by her, giving her all of his attention.
"What did you see?" he beckoned.
She began to tell him that she saw the wolves, Hugo calling for her, the wolves pouncing on her, and being dragged away by a blonde wolf. She didn't see anyone transform. She was greatly lost in confusion, but who wouldn't after the events last night.
The good news? Astrid was telling the truth. They hadn't been betrayed. The bad news is he had to break all of this information about werewolves to her. He had to be the one to tell Cambria of her new sad fate.
When would he tell her? He didn't want her to have this life. This life wasn't well suited for her. Cambria was too gentle to be a werewolf, but maybe if Daisy could thrive so could Cambria. However, Daisy was born into it and knew her fate probably as a child. Cambria is just now going to discover everything at once.
"Cambria." he sighed. "This is going to be a lot to take in."
She looked at him in waiting.
"The wolves you saw last night were," he looked away for a moment. "They were werewolves." he said.
"Hugo, stop joking I thought you were going to say something serious." she said.
He took a deep breath and tried to think of what to say.
"Hugo?" she continued.
"Cambria I'm a werewolf," he muttered. "And you are too."
She shook her head. "Stop. They can't be real. You are not Hugo I know you. You aren't." she said in denial.
"I'm sorry Cambria. I wish I could have protected you." He stood up from the couch. "I'll give you some space to process it all." He finished and walked out of the room. A few minutes later as he stood in his kitchen, he texted the others to tell them of Astrid's innocence. The door opened and his mother walked in carrying reusable bags with groceries.
