CHAPTER 34: the air reeks of that fucker

There was an uncomfortable feeling when I arrived in school that morning. It was thick enough that you could cut through it with a knife. Something bad was going to happen and even though I didn't know what, I had a feeling I was going to find out soon.

Walking into school, I expected the place to be turned upside down, but the halls were filled with students getting on with their usual routine. The feeling didn't subside though and as I headed to my locker to get my folder out, Cass comes running to me. She was out of breath as she held onto my arm in a tight grip. I stared at her as if she was crazy whilst she tried to control her breathing.

"Oh my god, Brielle. You have to help me. Owen's out of control," she told me, her voice quick as she looked at me with worry laced in her features. Always trust your gut, I thought.

"What happened? Cass, what's Owen done now." oh god, I can only imagine. I don't even want to know. I'd dread to know. I've seen how Owen is when he's 'out of control'. It wasn't a pretty sight and to be honest, I'd be glad to make it out alive in his presence when he's like that. His brother could probably reel him in a bit, but we would have to restrain him from killing someone. Anyone would describe him like a wild dog or a wolf. An animal who is vicious and dangerous, but in reality, loves snuggles and belly rubs. I'm just kidding. Well, I was kidding about the belly rubs...

...I think.

"I think you need to see for yourself." I let her pull me along quickly to a part of the school with students crowding around some people. I heard the familiar shouts of Owen and when I caught a glimpse of him, he was shouting and pointing at the wall behind him with a distressed look in his eyes. The other guys were trying to stop him from his raging phase as I stared in pure horror. I've never seen Owen this pissed off before. Out of instinct, my arms pushed people out of the way as I made my way over to Owen, whose eyes soon met mine. He stopped shouting for a second before his eyes softened.

"Brielle," he breathed out, his arm dropping from the wall as I looked from him to the wall behind him. The message was written in what looked like black spray paint because the stench was still strong, stinging against my nose.

'THERE'S HELL TO PAY WHEN YOU MESS WITH ME, BOWERS. THAT MESSAGE WAS PURE COWARDICE AND VERY SOON I WILL GET MY HANDS ON THE TOWN AND ON THE BLONDE BITCH YOU'RE FUCKING. - L.O'CONNOR'

My shaking hand pointed to the message as everyone started whispering to one another. The message was scary and it made my blood run cold. 'Blonde bitch'. It wasn't obvious, but I knew it was me. My golden hair was what was significant to me. It made me part of who I was. For it to be a connotation with 'bitch' just about insulted every blonde girl in my school and in history.

"O-Owe..." Owen wouldn't let me see that message and my feet wouldn't budge. He walked over, blocking my view from the message. My arms reached out to push him out of the way so I can check. Check if that message is a hoax, that I'm hallucinating, but no. The bold statement, the threat was still there and I couldn't stop thinking about it.

"No, doll, I know. Just come on, please." he tried to lead me away, pulling me after him as my eyes drifted to the black paint. I have to see. I need to believe it for myself. Coco and Jaxon were behind me, pushing me forward and away. God, this will be the talk of the school for a while. Whilst I was worried about Liam trying to get me, my mother threatened to keep me locked up in the house to keep me from being taken. Owen was busy stressing out about Liam as well.

Meanwhile, at school, everyone was talking about the whole 'fucking' situation. Obviously, it couldn't be true. What do these people take me for? I'm not fooling around with Owen just because he's trying to protect me from someone who's trying to take over Summer View. Although, the thought does sound kind of hot.
