CHAPTER 30: happy birthday, you hoe!

I had been invited to Kiara's birthday party at the gang compound and my mom was so excited I thought she was hyperventilating. Oh yeah, she came back from her trip and she was extremely happy to be invited to Kiara's party. Something about 'letting loose and going crazy'. The woman was up at one in the morning cooking for me and then when I came down for breakfast, she had it all set out for me. A whole fucking banquet of food.
"Oh, darling, hurry up. We might be late," my mother called as I put the last of my nude lipstick on. My hair was in light curls this evening and the dress I wore had a floral pattern design on it.
I skipped down the stairs, my mother waiting for me in her red dress as she looked at her watch on her wrist. The smile on her face made my shoulders lift slightly. Seeing mom happier than ever made me happy myself. It may seem cringey as fuck, but honestly, it was true.
"Come on, darling. Chop, chop." I hurried down the stairs as we headed out, the cool breeze of the night hitting my skin. We got into the car and headed through the streets before hitting the rough roads for a few minutes, arriving at the compound where the lights in the hall were glowing, giving everything the light touched a nice golden glow.
Everyone else was already there by the time we arrived. As we got to the gates, Baxter hurried to me but was stopped short when his leash had reached its limit. I kneeled down before him, rubbing his chin as he released a small whine, yawning in the process.
"Well if it ain't our beautiful girls. What are you standing out here for?" Kiara exclaimed as my head snapped over to her. She wore a party hat on her head as well as her favourite dress and heels. She heads over to us, pulling us by the arms and guiding us to the main hall of the compound where everyone was.
There was a mixture of the usual dark colours of the clothes that some people wore whilst there was also the bright colours of a happy night ahead of us. Mom was soon dragged away by Kiara and the other women and I soon found myself alone.
Usually, these parties turned into a riot of drinking, singing and risky party games and that was only after the kids had been ushered out by parents and taken home for bedtime. Being eighteen and in the gang compound does have its advantages even if tonight, I won't be hitting the alcohol too hard because if mom gets drunk, which she probably will, I have to take her home.
People moved around me, cheering and hollering. Hmm, I need food. Where's the food? My eyes scanned the crowd until it dropped on the buffet table across the room. My feet started to move as I struggled to get there due to me being small and the fact that everyone just. Wouldn't. Move.
I was stood with Jaxon and Darren as we drank peacefully, watching everyone else have a laugh. Sure, this party was fun, but I was practically dragged here by Alfonso. I could be busy with other stuff, but no.
