CHAPTER 09: Jordan

Me and mom were busy packing for Thursday and we spent the whole morning sorting out mom's room. There were barely any clothes that belonged to dad in their room and to be fair, there were barely any items in general that belonged to dad.
"Mom, where do I put this?" I asked, holding up a picture frame of me from when I was younger and she points to the box on her bed where other possessions were kept. It was hard for me to pack my belongings and a weight fell upon my shoulders. Dad wasn't around, but he was at home. He didn't even bother to help us pack. He was probably sloshed and lying on the couch or something, knowing him. I sighed and turned to see mom heading out of the room, a few boxes in her hands. The truck had arrived to move our belongings to the new house, but we were staying until Thursday, which I didn't really see the point in.
I searched through my closet and shelves before opening one of my cupboards and seeing a pastel pink box sat at the very bottom, blankets and towels covering it. Carefully, I laid my fingers upon it before reaching in and grabbing it, knocking over the fabrics. The lid had no name or dates written on it and I had forgotten why I even had this box. My fingers skimmed over the lid before I lifted it off.
My stomach suddenly dropped as every bad memory rushes back into my head. It was a feeling that I never wanted to feel again, but here I was, the same feeling smashing my heart into thousands of pieces. A bracelet that Jordan had given to me a few years ago sat there, still as new as I last saw it. Ah, the breakup box. I knew I should've left the lid on. I knew it looked familiar. Jordan Humphries was always the guy I thought I'd marry, but I was just some crazy teenager who cared too much, but also too little. I gulped and took the photo of us together out, fresh tears stinging my eyes as sand had just got in them. No, no, no, I can't. Not now because I'll never forgive myself.
He was popular, but yet he loved an outcast like me. Everyone loved us together and everything was so perfect when he was around. I guess I wasn't the best I could be. Jordan gave me the world and yet I couldn't offer him even half as much as he had offered me. Jordan was handsome too. He had brown locks of hair and hazel eyes that every girl adored. We were originally just studying partners until he asked me out that day in the summer. I couldn't say no. My conscience was telling me that if I did, I would regret it greatly.
I sniffled lightly as a tear runs down my cheek before I quickly wipe it away and placing the photo back into its rightful place. The bracelet was still there and he didn't ask for it back, but I feel like he only did that to get rid of an extra bad memory of how shit I was as a girlfriend.
That's why I don't date. I don't want to hurt anyone else. Jordan was the last straw for me and after he left for England, I still blamed myself even if Miranda broke his heart once again by cheating on him with a bunch of other guys in our school.
