To make a vaccine or set Mindy straight first? Cody's crave for revenge suggested the latter. It was probably smart to have Mindy around in case something went wrong with the vaccine... But Mindy was probably suspicious already. Mindy was obviously a mastermind at lying, so Cody's rookie ones were already starting to fall through.
Cody decided to make the vaccine first. He wouldn't bring Mindy to the lab because he was afraid of what she would do, especially since she was working for the Mother, around the evil plant. Cody did decide, however, to bring Sammy along to cure him as soon as he made the vaccine. He wasn't going to bring Seb because he would be at work, and he didn't want to set anyone in the military off about the situation, especially since people in the military tended to be consistently possessed.
Cody went into the living room, where Sammy was sat staring at the wall.
"Hey, Sammy. Fancy a ride in the truck?" Cody asked.
"Uh... Yeah. Sure, I guess? Why?" Sammy replied.
"Just... Wanted to talk, y'know?" Cody buffed.
"Sure?" Sammy said, still questioning.
"Well... Go ahead and go outside. The Ford's locked, but I'm gonna go grab the keys. See ya in a sec," Cody informed Sammy, watching as Sammy ambled towards the door, then turned around to go search for the keys. Luckily, Cody easily found the keys in their rightful place, the cupboard in the kitchen. Cody snatched his messenger bag off its hook to the left of the door and strode out of the house.Unlocking the car with the click of a button and hopping in, Sammy behind him, Cody began to talk to fulfill his promise that he "just wanted to talk."
"So... You've been acting sorta... Off lately," Cody said, almost yelling over the sound of his old truck starting.
"I feel sorta off," Sammy added, his voice quieting as he adjusted to the sound of the engine, which was evening its din to a rumbling hmmmmmmm.
"Oh?" Cody asked, genuinely interested.
"It's hard to explain. My brain feels different. There's something different going on in my head but I can't figure out what it is..." Sammy said, seeming detached, "I do have a constant headache though." He grimaced at that.
"That sucks," Cody agreed, frowning.
"Yeah," Sammy said, then changed the subject, "So, where are we going?"
"I dunno," Cody lied, "Just... A roadtrip."
"Ok," Sammy said, believing Cody's lie.Cody continued driving until he reached the lab, him and Sammy chatting sparsely on the way.
"Why are we at the lab?" Sammy asked, fear tinging his voice.
"Oh, no particular reason..." Cody lied again. Sammy bit his lip.
"It'll be fine!" Cody reassured Sammy upon seeing his worried expression.
"Are you sure? I mean-- last time I was here something happened... Something mysterious, maybe bad... But I don't know what." Sammy stuttered.
"I'm sure nothing bad happened here." Another lie.
"If you say so..."Cody led Sammy into the lab, then opened the first door. Sammy didn't voice any concerns, but looked fairly close to being sick.
"You ok?" Cody asked.
"I'm- I'm fine," Sammy muttered, looking blankly into the distance."
"Ok..."Cody and Sammy continued going down floors in the lab until they reached the very bottom basement floor of the lab. Sammy's face was practically green at this point. His muscles were all tensed up, and he was staring off into the distance again. Cody was surprised that Sammy wasn't straight up possessed at this point, especially this close to the Mother herself.
"Hello? Sammy?" Cody asked, waving his hand in front of Sammy's dazed face.
"What? Oh... I'm here," Sammy replied. Instead of being green, Sammy was now drained of color.
"Are you sure you're ok?"
"Yeah, just... déjà vu, I guess."
"Alright...Cody walked over to the chemical analyzer and began constructing the first vaccine. Suddenly, he realized he didn't have enough spore clusters to create the next vaccine.
"Hey, Sammy B?" Cody asked, still partially absorbed in his work.
"Yeah?" Sammy answered, stopping his pacing.
"Can you use this? Pick up whatever it finds and hand the results to me please. Do it until it runs out of battery, ok?" Cody instructed Sammy, digging in his bag and handing the infection scanner to an awaiting Sammy.
"Sure," Sammy replied, taking it into his hands and tossing it for a moment before finding the button to activate it. Sammy jumped as a soft purple light lit up the room. Suddenly, Cody noticed a squishing sound, presumably because Sammy had discovered the spore clusters.
"What the-- Cody? I'm not picking those up. Ew," Sammy cried.
"Oh, it'a fine. They're not poisonous, otherwise I'd be dead, trust me," Cody said," Just bring 'em to me."
Cody could practically hear the disgust on Sammy's face as he reached for the spore cluster with closed eyes. Squish, squish, squish, squish, squish... Then all the clusters had been picked up and Sammy brought them to Cody."2 more times?" Cody requested, taking the 5 from Sammy and starting his next batch.
"Ugh," Sammy protested, going back to work. He was finished in a minute, and Cody was starting the next batch.
"Thanks, Sammy," Cody said.
"No problem," Sammy grumbled.Cody was finished his last batch of vaccines in less than 10 minutes. He took the first one out, looked at it, swished the odd liquid around, and threw it straight at Sammy'a face, into his eyes.
"Cody! Seriously?! You could've at least given me a warning! What was that for? Ugh-" Sammy stopped abruptly, and it seemed like some clouds were lost from his eyes.
"What the heck just happened? Holy crap, how did I not notice that ringing. Ahh, it's almost like I can still hear it. And I can think clearly! I didn't even notice it until it was gone... What happened?" Sammy ranted.
"Oh... It's complicated. Basically, in that room--" Cody pointed to the vine infested hallway-- "there's a giant evil plant. I nicknamed her the Mother because she possesses people and plants and stuff-- including you. I gave you a vaccine," Cody explained.
"Well... Thanks?"
"You're welcome. Next up, who do you wanna recruit to save the town?"A/N:
