"Is this it?" Cody's voice echoed through the desert air as he looked at the new house. It was nice, with a deep, cherry red siding and white wood. The garage was detached from the rest of the house and through the windows, you could tell the house was fully furnished.
"Yeah." Samuel Blaze, Cody's cousin, said.
"I like it. Hate to say it, Cody, but I think you'll have to take the garage..." Seb, another of Cody's cousins, said.
"I don't- I don't mind." Cody stuttered, walking forwards towards the garage, his suitcase scratching along the rocky driveway.
"Well, Sammy and I'll head inside, see what's there." Seb said, waving awkwardly and running towards the door.
"Let's check out the bar later!" Cody yelled after him, already opening the side door to the garage. He never heard his answer.
Walking in, it looked... mostly normal. How odd, Cody thought, that the garage of an abandoned little cottage that the previous owners left without a trace was... normal? Setting his suitcase down next to the stairs, he looked around, finding the normality disappearing. An empty science-y looking glass case was along one side of the wall. A desk sat next to it, unorganized papers and weird technological stuff was piled around it. Cody shivered and backed away and tried to forget what he had just seen. What was that? He glanced around the rest of the garage to distract himself. The rest was relatively normal. There was an exercise training bot on some cardboard boxes taped together in what looked like a makeshift mat under it. A shelf stocked with a few boxes that Cody didn't dare look through was along the other corner and in another corner there were a few counters and a woodworking table. Other than that desk, it looked totally... Normal. He walked up the stairs, grabbing his suitcase on the way up, to find his new bedroom. It looked artsy and the bed sheet had Van Gogh's Starry Night printed on it. He unpacked his clothes into a dresser, almost laughing a little at how much black he had in there. He set a few miscellaneous things on the top of the dresser, mostly just silver jewelry and a few eyeliner pencils. He caught a glance of himself in the sparkling clean dresser. His fiery red hair was slicked back neatly, sticking to his neck from the sweat of a new, hot desert environment. His eyes were greenish-blue, and he had been told they were quite pretty many times by many people. He always ignored the compliment. His skin was pretty pale, and his face was long and angular. He looked away from the mirror, hearing a robotic voice and slapping sounds coming from downstairs.
What? Cody thought. His hands started jittering and sweating as he picked up a dusty looking broom and crept down the stairs and there was the source of the sound... Cody  almost screamed just as he saw it...
But it was just Seb. Cody cursed himself for his paranoia.
"Oh... Hey, Seb." Cody said.
"Hi." Seb replied, caught up in his practice spar with the exercise robot.
"Yeah!" The robot's voice rang out through the garage. Suddenly, a faint knocking sound echoed through the room. To no surprise, Cody jumped. A creepy, horror-like voice said with a strange accent said,
"ŦĦ€ ΜØŦĦ€Ř βŘƗŇǤŞ ỮŞ ŦØ ¥ØỮ..."
"Umm... Hello?" Seb yelled.
"ŴĦ€Ř€ ΔŘ€ ¥ØỮ... ŦĦ€ ΜØŦĦ€Ř ĆΔŁŁŞ ¥ØỮ ŦØ ĴØƗŇ ỮŞ..." The voice said again.
Seb glanced at Cody worriedly, then slowly opened the door. A group of stiff looking people were facing the main house door, looking inside. There were footsteps as Sammy came, probably to open up the door.
"ĆØΜ€... ĴØƗŇ ỮŞ... ŴΔŦ€Ř... ĴØƗŇ..." The voice said to the window.
"Um... Hello?" Seb asked.
"ŦĦƗŞ ƗŞ ŞŦŘΔŇǤ€ŘVƗŁŁ€." The voice said to Seb, not turning around. One's, a blonde with short hair, neck snapped to the side, making Cody jump at the sudden movement and start breathing heavily.
"Uhh... Yeah... Do you want something?" Seb asked again.
"¥€Ş... Ŵ€ ŴΔŇŦ ¥ØỮ ŦØ ĴØƗŇ ỮŞ..." The voice hissed, "Ŵ€ ĦΔV€ ĆØΜ€ ŦØ ƗŇƗŦƗΔŦ€ ¥ØỮ."
"Uhh... What?" Seb inquired.
After this, the group of people went inside, inciting a piercing scream from Sammy. Seb ran inside, for he and Sammy were very close.
Cody, however, ran back to the garage. Was there anything on the desk that said anything about this? Searching through papers, he fingered a small piece of metal. Was it... A bug? Rushing inside after Seb and Sammy, Cody glanced around for the group of people. Sure enough, to the right, the blonde haired girl was putting something in the fridge, followed by a brown haired male wearing a cowboy inspired green suit and a cowboy hat. The heck?
They turned to face Cody, and that's when the town started to fit its name.
Each person had eyes open far wider than eyes should be opened. Their smiles were equally eerie, stretching almost to the apples of their cheeks and showing each layer of teeth. Cody's blood ran cold.
"Wh- who-" Cody stuttered, but he couldn't find a single word.
"β€ΔỮŦ¥β€ΔỮŦ¥β€ΔỮŦ¥β€ΔỮŦ¥β€ŁŁΔβ€ΔỮŦ¥β€ΔỮŦ¥β€ΔỮŦ¥β€ΔỮŦ¥." said the blonde one.
"ŴΔŦ€Ř ƗŞ ŁØV€ ŴΔŦ€Ř ƗŞ ŁƗ₣€." Said the brown haired one, who Cody recognized as... The mayor?
They waddled off, occasionally freezing and going into an odd pose with the sound of snapping bones ringing in the air.
"What the actual-" Cody said, he ran after them to use the bug he found.
"Oh... Heeeey. I will join the mother... I'm just a huge fan of you, Mr. Mayor!" Cody mused. It sounded fake but... It would have to do, so he continued, "I would just love a hug." The odd, possessed looking creature scratched his head, but Cody reached forward to hug him. As he patted him on the back, he slipped on the bug. Pulling away quickly and muttering a "thanks" he went to wash his hands. He took at least a few minutes, but when he came out, he found that they were gone.
"Just what I need," Cody muttered, annoyed, "StrangerVille living up to its name."
