Next order of business, finding a scientist to make Cody's spore filter. Cody was home now, and had a manila folder full of information the machine had spit out. Of course, Cody had no idea what he was to do with it, but it seemed interesting. With a jolt, Cody realized he didn't have an inkling about what to do when all this was over. Maybe he'd apply to be a scientist intern, so he could study science without going to college? Or maybe he wanted to go to college to study science? What if science wasn't for him at all? He was enjoying the mystery, so maybe he should go for a more forensic route? Cody had no idea, and hadn't thought about it one bit. Maybe, Cody would try out being a scientist, interning in the lab, then if he didn't like it he could try interning as a detective. He knew he'd need a degree or two in college to do either, but he wasn't sure, so maybe they'd let him intern first, to make sure that was the route he wanted to take.
Suddenly, there was a knocking sound.
"Hello?" it was Sammy's voice, his unnatural pink eyes staring at Cody from the door frame.
"Oh, hey, Sammy. What's up?" Cody asked, turning to the side of the couch to look at him.
"It's just..." Sammy came to sit on the couch beside Cody, "Seb has been acting really weird lately. I know I was overreacting when he had that outburst at the lab, but the whole thing was just a lot of information for me and I wasn't used to him being like... that. But anyways, I don't know what's wrong with him. He's usually such a jokester, and now he's so irritable. I don't know why."Now, the moral dilemma. Did he tell Sammy the truth about Seb? Let him know what he was, what happened? Or wait until a later date or straight up not tell Sammy at all?
"Sammy... Seb is..." Cody started.
Maybe it wasn't such a good idea to tell him. After all, he was just... well... Sammy.
"I'm sure Seb is fine. He probably is just having a thing with all the new information and stress of having a new job. You can understand that, right?" Cody asked. He really was pretty good at lying now, after having lied to so many people.
"Yeah..." Sammy sighed, then continued, "Thanks. I really needed that." Sammy smiled, then walked into the kitchen to grab a snack.
That felt wrong, but Cody knew he couldn't let Sammy know what was happening. He just couldn't. His brain told him off again and again, but he didn't give into full guilt.
Not quite yet.
Cody got up and walked out, placing the manila folder of Infection Profile Data into his messenger bag after having stared at the information inside for so long. Wandering around a bit, he found a scientist chatting with a black haired military soldier. The soldier saluted and went back to a straight-backed posture while the scientist, a girl with cropped purple hair began to walk away. Cody chased after her. Finally seeing her face the first time as she looked at him, Cody realized how pretty she was. Her skin was tanned from her time in the desert, and her eyes were a deep chocolate brown. Everything about her gave off an all-business, smart air.
"Hi... I'm Cody. You?" Cody asked, trying to be as polite as possible.
"Mindy." the woman replied, head turned away from him. Would he have to seduce her if he wanted the filter? Distract her like that? This was going to be harder than he thought, judging by her cold attitude.
"Well..." Cody started. He hadn't the first idea how to flirt. He'd never flirted with anyone before.
"I like your hair. It's a pretty shade of purple." Cody said, his mind panicking. Was that good? Did it sound fake?
"Thanks." Mindy replied, still keeping her shadowy attitude.
"Well... do you want lunch? I heard the park has a really good food stand." Cody said. Did he really have to do this? Yes, he did.
"No, thank you." Mindy said.
"Are you sure? It'd be my pleasure." Cody replied.
"Well... fine." Mindy said. I guess she decided one guy buying her lunch couldn't hurt. All the better for Cody.Cody walked her over to a picnic table in the park.
"So, Mindy... Got a last name?"
"Huang."
"Cool. Favorite... Color?"
"Purple."
"Food?"
"Burgers, I guess."
"Burgers it is. How cooked?"
"Well done."
"Fries?"
"Sure."
"Condiments?"
"None."
"Alright then. I'll order and pay. Don't worry about it."
Cody walked over to the man at the food stand, ordering Mindy's and his food. The man handed him a paper bag with his orders in it, then thanked Cody for shopping. Cody replied with a hasty "No problem" then headed back over to Mindy, handing her her burger and fries. Before she started eating, Cody noticed her eying his bag weirdly.
"Is that a hazmat suit in your bag?"
"Uh... Yes."
"Do you have a filter?"
"No."
"I can make you one. You know the scientists in this town are trying to build it up, not tear it apart, right? I haven't been able to collect any spores because the my scanner hasn't come yet. If you give me an Infection Profile Data, I can make you a spore filter."
"Really?"
"Of course."
Cody pulled his manila folder out of his bag and handed it to Mindy. Mindy looked through it, then replied.
"It'll be sitting in your mailbox by 5 P.M. tonight. Won't take long to make."
"Awesome. Get it to me ASAP."
"Ok, will do, Cody... Cody what?"
"Jett."
"Will do, Cody Jett." Mindy replied with a smile. Cody could have sworn an evil look flickering in her eyes, but he was pretty tired. Definitely imagining it."5 P.M, Jett! 5 P.M!" Mindy said, running off, burger and fries in hand.
