Pool was played for half the night. Wilhelm won most of the games and forced Albert to buy him one bottle of beer for every game. Wilhelm sat back in the chair that was in the corner of the dark game room. He even fell asleep for a few hours while more German soldiers walked in to play a couple of games with Albert and Ernst.

"What was that?" asked Ernst as it sounded like a gunshot right outside the doorway to the bar.

Soldiers outside yelled in Russian as Albert, Ernst, Wilhelm, and the other soldiers ran to the door. On the brick road laid three dead German soldiers with Soviet soldiers standing over them. They looked up in the bar and saw Ernst, Albert, and Wilhelm starring at them with their eyes wide with fear.

"Run, run!" yelled Albert as they headed towards the back of the bar, pushing the waiter off his feet as they reached the back door that met a dark alley. Bullets from the Russian pistols flew over their heads as they reached the door to the back of the bar. The door was locked and the waiter tried to stop them from getting out anywhere else.

"Stop them!" he yelled.

"Where did they go?" asked one of the Russian soldiers, anxiously.

"Down that hall I believe, soldier."

The Russian soldiers sprinted down the hall. That hallway led into the building right next to it which was a ballroom. Albert led Ernst and Wilhelm through the ballroom and out the other side. There was an empty street that was pitch black. Nothing could be seen, so Albert picked a direction and just started running until a wall of sandbags blocked them from getting out. They all stood in fear as they could just barely make out shadows of the Russian soldiers about 50 meters in front of them, staring in all directions looking for the three men. Albert's whole body shook as he looked for a way out. Nothing, just blackness.

"You, look down that road. Me and you, we will keep looking straight ahead. Go!"

The Russian soldiers spread out and two came down the way the three German soldiers were. Albert continued looking around for an escape route. A building was their only choice.

"In that building! Go, go, go!"

The three men ran to the door which led to the kitchen of a small bakery. Albert looked for a source of light there was only a small fire that was going out in the stove which provided almost none. Above, the stove laid two lanterns that Albert could hardly see.

"Lighter! Someone give me a lighter!" said Albert as he picked up the lantern.

"Uh......here Albert!" said Wilhelm.

The fire in the oil lamp grew and made a small tint of light that was good enough to see a couple feet around them. Wilhelm's eyes grew as he searched his pockets.

"Weapons! Anyone got weapons? Knifes or at least pistols?"

"Search around the kitchen! I have a knife that is attached to my boots."

Albert pulled the knife out of the sheath and gripped it hard. Voices of Russian soldiers came from the outside of the bakery. Wilhelm quietly stepped to the door and hid by the side of the open door. Albert and Ernst hid on the other side of the kitchen behind some metal cabinets with knifes from the kitchen in hand.  Wilhelm gripped his knife and waited for the soldiers to walk through the door. He breathed loudly as he heard the sound of boots coming into the kitchen.
