Morning Artillery

I woke up, startled by the explosions of artillery close by. Dirt fell from the ceiling on the cellar. I woke up Charlotte and Ernst. Charlotte woke up screaming from a dream she had and I had to calm her down. I put my hands on her shoulders and felt her chest move up and down rapidly. The sounds of artillery when she was half asleep must have scared her. She kept breathing loudly until I put my finger over her lip.

"You will be fine, Charlotte. There's just some artillery going off in the distance."

She looked at me and nodded, wiping her forehead in relief. Her eyes met mine and she smiled and said "Thank you for waking me, Albert." I smiled back at her and said "Your welcome." She winked at me and had a small giggle. Ernst on the other hand, sighed again over us flirting  with each other. I ignored it as best as possible. I knew if I would ever have a relationship with Charlotte, it would just be a small thing, just us two talking and hanging out with each other. There were many things I liked about Charlotte, the way she acts around me, the way she looks, and just her peppy personality. All of those things gave me a calm, warm feeling inside.
