I chewed my lip nervously as I leant against my car in West Vale High's parking lot. Albeit, I knew trying to corner Grayson at school wasn't the best plan, but I doubted he'd answer the door if I showed up at his house.
Scanning the crowd of students flocking from the schools doors, I realised I was awful at thinking about what I would say.
It had been 9 days since I'd seen Grayson in his bedroom that day, when everything came crashing down. I'd had 9 days to figure out what I would say to him and I knew all too well now that I was about to wing it.
My heart skipped a beat, practically jumping up my throat when I spotted him.
"Grayson." I said, when he had seen me. I reached out and touched his arm.
He turned to peer at me through his grey hood and kept walking.
"Hey!" I called, frowning, rushing behind him. "Wait!" I tried again, before rushing in front of him. "Okay stop!" I held my hands out to stop him.
"What do you want, Ainsworth?" He sighed, rubbing his eyes.
I frowned. "Can we talk, please?"
"I really don't know what there is to talk about." He said.
"I do, Grayson I want to work this out." He shook his head laughing.
"You just don't know when to stop, do you? Look." He gestured to me. "You won okay, you can stop now."
"I don't want to win!" I exclaimed. "I just want you." I touched his arm.
Grayson looked at my hand and for a moment I worried he would pull away, but he only looked back up to me, his eyes scanning my face. "And I want you to not be a bitch." He shrugged. "But here we are." And with that he pushed past me.
Staring after him, I was shocked as I began to realise the Grayson I fell in love with just wasn't present anymore.
"Miss Ainsworth!" I heard the boiling hatred in the voice behind me.
"Yeah yeah." I rolled my eyes. "I'm going!" Opening my car door and hopping into the drivers seat, I smiled apologetically at Mr Forman, who only seemed to go redder in the face.
My parents couldn't have been more pleased when they found out Grayson and I had broken up, and they made no attempt to hide it.
Of course, I hadn't told them willingly, but my sudden retirement to my room made them suspicious.
Dad couldn't help but point out that since Grayson's disappearance from my life, I'd started behaving myself. This had only frustrated me, because maybe Grayson was the reason my behaviour had worsened, but he was also someone that had changed my life incredibly. I can safely say that I am not the same person I was the day that this all started.
It wasn't until day 14 that I really began to think I had completely lost Grayson forever.
Filing my books into my locker, I turned to Will and Isabel. "So do you guys fancy hanging out tonight?"
"Actually..." Will said, exchanging a look with Isabel. "We have a date tonight."
They looked at me apologetically. "Oh." I said, smiling "That's fun, don't worry, I'll ask Jules."
"Still nothing from Grayson?" Isabel asked, frowning.
I shook my head no, tucking hair behind my ear. "No, but you know, Julian has been really supportive and so have you guys." I shut my locker, trying my best to convince them. "It really doesn't even matter."
"Violet." Isabel shook her head, linking her arm in mine as we walked through the hallway. "You do not have to pretend with us! We're your friends."
