AAHANA'S POV
I don't understand his expression. I get it, I was reckless and made everyone worry. But what is it that he is stressing about??
"You ask me why?!" he yelled stopping the car.
"Do you even realize how much worried I was??!" he shouted.
"I am asking you the same. Why were you specifically so worried about me? " I questioned him.
"I don't want to tell you or talk with you or look at your face after what you have done today" he yelled speeding up.
"Why? Am not your property or you are not someone who has known me for ages to get worried like this." I replied.
"Don't talk with me!" he yelled.
"Why are you going this way?!" I asked him as he started driving towards the beach.
"I want to throw you in the sea" he yelled again.
"What about my parents?!" I yelled back.
"I will look after them obviously" he yelled.
"You want to steal my parents for yourself! So selfish!" I said folding my hands over my chest.
"Get down" he ordered opening my car door.
"Why?To get killed?" I questioned him.
"Please get down" he requested.
"Walk with me? Will you?" he asked me.
"No!" I said trailing behind him.
"Please?" he requested again. I walked with him slowly
"I am sorry. I lost my temper" he started talking while I tried to zone out as I am still pissed with him.
"You are important to me Aahana. Very important. Don't ask me how come you suddenly became so important to me, just understand that there are people in my life without whom I can't live" he said making me halt in my steps.
He can't live without me??
"What happened?" he asked turning towards me.
"Why am I the person without whom you can't live? Like suddenly?" I asked him.
"It's not sudden. Are you hungry?" he asked walking towards Bhel Puri guy asking him to make two.
I don't want to eat bhel puri.
"Aahu you want something? You don't like bhel puri know? " he asked making my eyes pop out.
"When did you notice?!" I questioned him narrowing my eyes.
"At the orphanage you always skipped eating bhel during parties" he replied casually.
I stood there looking at him while he paid for whatever he bought. Why did he observe such minute details? I mean there's a party every six months that has all street food available for kids, it's like a cheat day for them. His mom used to say that we should celebrate, celebrate for being useful to society, and keep ourselves engaged in some good work. She always said parties like this will help you all to relax for a day and let kids enjoy their cheat diet. She was a cheerful lady, and always had happiness up her sleeve no matter what the circumstances were. But since one year no one hosted any party, we all are still recovering.
"Let's sit there" he said handing over some bhajis
"It's so cool right?" he said eating his bhel without any gap.
"You haven't had any food since morning?" I asked him.
"No" he replied.
"But why? Fasting? Dieting?" I questioned him savoring my food.
"Dying to find you." he replied curtly.
I stayed mum.
Did my disappearance trouble him so much?
"Next time. Send a message or call someone and inform them. It's not good to go away like that even though you are an adult and can handle things" he said looking silently at the dark sea.
I didn't reply to him. He has not said anything bad or offensive. I was careless but I have this urge to ask him, what is it that makes him so protective towards me? We started our friendship recently, although we have known each other for years. I felt awkward with this silence when I looked at his, he seemed to be at peace. Happy to see me safe. Happy to know that I have survived this day without any ill fate.
Why?
Am I looking too much into this?
"Whoever marries you, she's going to be very lucky" I said smiling a bit.
"Why suddenly that topic?" he asked me.
"Just felt like telling you" I said ending our further discussion on it. I like him, every girl liked him. Nothing special. But wishing he gets a good partner somehow doesn't sit well with me as somewhere my heart wants me to be that person. We sat in silence looking at the calm sea with sweat dripping on our faces as it is extremely humid today but we were somehow comfortable.
Why?
"Shall we go? You have been away from home since morning. Your favorite restaurant might be open now. You want to order or go there and take away?" he asked me.
"We will go to restaurant" I said getting up from my place.
We both sat in his car. Not a word from either of us. I gave him directions and he drove silently. We waited for about half an hour at a restaurant for our takeaway. He didn't complain nor make angry faces.
Calm.
Calm as if he's in deep thought.
"Come inside!" I invited him.
"No, you carry on. My dad is alone at home" he said smiling sweetly.
"No, you have to come. My parents -" I was about to talk but Dad came shouting outside.
"There she is! Aahu! You buffalo!" he scolded holding my ear. Soham got out of the car laughing slightly.
"Uncle. She got you food. Take her inside. All of you are tired. Eat and take rest" he said smiling.
"You also come inside Soham. Thank you so much for this kind gesture." Dad thanked him
"Some other times uncle, dad is at home alone. I need to go " he said getting into the car.
"OK, son. Some other time then" my dad said waving him bye.
As I walked in I saw him looking at me from his side mirror, smiling widely. From stranger to known person to acquaintance to friend. Now why I do feel he is more than a friend to me now? My mind came back to my parents who were bombing questions on me without a gap. My phone pinged indicating I got a message.
Meet me tomorrow at the same place where we sat today. I need to talk.
- SohamMy mind went blank. Need to talk? About what?
