Roxy smacked the alarm clock off her dresser as it made that annoying bell sound. She rubbed her green eyes and layed contently in her bed. Her, her family and her friends had arrived at their new home yesterday. There wasn't very much unpacking to do since most of their stuff had been shipped from New Jersey a couple of days before they had arrived and their new housekeeper Ms. Royce was exceptionally proactive and had unpacked and put everything into place before they had arrived.
Roxy liked her new house, even though it was a little large and swanky for her tastes. Her parents, Carlos and Ebony Villanovos were developers and had merged their company with a global developing company last year. They were heading the project to build luxury homes in Riverstone, West Sydney a small suburban community that was mostly farmland. They had enrolled her into Norwest Christian College since it was closer to their working headquarters and Roxy had a dreadful feeling that her parents were going to make her spend a lot of time in that deadbeat town. They had this annoying habit of wanting to include her in everything they do, since they wanted her take over the business one day. Roxy really had no interest, but she dare not say that in front of her father who would go off on a long winded tangent about how they were providing a necessity to their communities.
Roxy rolled her eyes at the thought of her father making a speech in his thick Spanish accent and hopped out of bed. Her room was much larger than the one back in America and she needed to add some more furniture to give it a fuller look, even her full queen sized bed looked small in the enormous space. She quickly showered and dressed after noticing it was half past nine. Her parents had scheduled a tour of Norwest with her and her friends, so they'd be ready for the first day of school. They were also supposed to pick up those horrid uniforms that she saw the students wear on the school's website. Roxy sighed and made her way downstairs. Francesca, Amanda, and Kylie were already there and ready to go.
Damn overachievers.
Her dad waved goodbye as they pulled out of the driveway. He unfortunately had a meeting to go to and couldn't come with them. Pity. Roxy thought her dad always made things like this more fun, because he would always make fun of the tour guides fake enthusiasm.
She chuckled to herself and noticed Amanda rolling her eyes at her.
Kylie, Francesca, and Amanda were in a heavy chat about last night's episode of the Walking Dead. Since she hated the show, she took the time to look out the window at the surroundings. She noticed that as they left Cherrybrook and arrived at Riverstone, that the atmosphere had changed from swanky to country.
Her mom rolled the SUV into one of the tight parking spaces and the five of them hopped out. The school wasn't as small as she expected. It was mostly brick and looked like your typical public school back in America.
"Not so bad so far", Amanda said cheerfully to the group.
"Well let's walk in first", Francesca said, laughing at Amanda's enthusiasm.
They entered into the school's office area and were greeted by the front desk receptionist, who collected their tour guide; some dude named Trevor. He had shiny teeth and greeted them "Hiya". God Roxy wished her dad was here.
"Welcome girls", he said to them as he led them out of the office and into the school's courtyard. He chatted to them as he showed them the exterior of the school. Turns out, old Trevor was not only a tour guide, but the curriculum coordinator at NWCC. He bragged about himself more than he informed them about the school, and Roxy silently cheered Francesca on when she began asking him questions in lieu of his personal pitch.
"Well girls this is our interior, where you will be attending classes daily", Trevor said holding the door open for them as they walked into the building. It was long tiled hallway that had lockers and doors to classrooms lining the sides.
"Since you girls will be part of the upperclass cohort, you will have your lockers on the second floor", Trevor said leading them through the hallway.
As Trevor lead them down the hallway, Roxy's attention was caught by the tall boy with bright green hair exiting one of the classroom doors in the distance. He looked like he was around six feet and was wearing a blue plaid jacket over a white t-shirt and black pants. As he sauntered towards them, he eyed the girls up rather boldly, especially Amanda. A small smile was playing on his lips as he approached them.
"Mr. Clifford, I hope that hair is straightened out by Monday", Trevor said as the boy passed.
Roxy heard the boy choke out a laugh and mutter something under his breath before turning and sarcastically saying, "Sure thing Mr. Morgan. It will be normal for you all by Monday." He winked at Amanda and continued on his way, completely unaffected by the fuming stares he was receiving from Trevor.
Roxy rolled her eyes. If Trevor thought calling out a student about proper dress code, especially hair, would impress them he was dead wrong.
We make look like squares, but we aren't Roxy thought.
"Stay away from him and his lot of friends", Trevor said matter-of-factly to Roxy. "They are sort of a rowdy bunch, not at all like most of the students here at Norwest."
Roxy found it a little unsettling that Trevor would outcast a kid and his friend so quickly because they did not fit the norm. She frowned and was distracted by this for most of the tour. Her mom nudged her to pay attention and snap out of whatever trance she was in. Roxy did and tried to pay attention to what Trevor was saying about their performing arts center. She became distracted by a picture of boys in the horrid green blazers playing instruments. They looked like some sort of band and they all had fringes except for the dude playing the guitar. The boy on left of the stage playing the guitar looked like the one that had passed them earlier.
Underneath the picture, were the names Luke Hemmings (front, guitar, singer), Michael Clifford (left, guitar), Calum Hood (right, bass), and Scotty McLaurin (drums). She didn't bother to ask Trevor about them, because she knew what he was already going to say.
The tour ended with them getting a dressocde. Apparently these people are strict right down to the socks with what you were supposed to wear. Roxy scoffed and remembered the boy she had seen in the hall. If most of the boys looked like that, then she may just be able to tolerate Norwest's dresscode.
Norwest was already seeming to be interesting.
