The day went by really quick, Roxy thought as she sat down in her last period class. Chemistry, lunch, Beginning Music and P.E. had all been a blur, especially since after lunch she had departed from her group and had to fend for herself in her other classes.
Chemistry had proven to be a hard class with Mr. Darfur assigning three chapter homework’s for the night, not to mention Roxy had no clue what he was even talking about in class. Good thing she had Francesca as a study mate.
Lunch was particularly interesting. Roxy and her friends had sat with Calum and his mates, Brian Hasler, Matty Borusiewicz and Gordy Vasko. They seemed to be the typical Australian blokes and had invited Roxy, Kylie, Francesca, and Amanda out to Cable’s Wakeboarding Park. Apparently, they were the area’s wakeboarding champions and wanted to teach the American’s the Australian way to wakeboarding. Roxy felt that this was going to be a disaster, but she obliged since she did make a commitment to try new things.
Beginning music was nothing noteworthy. She was in the class with at least 50 other students, who included Anisha and the crew that she saw sitting with her and Luke at lunch. Anisha ignored her, even though she had seen Roxy walk into the classroom. Roxy did not know how she felt about this, especially since Anisha had been friendly during first and second period. Or had she? Roxy was not sure anymore. But her grey eyed friend, Chloe Carrol, at least that was what Ms. Christie called her, definitely did not like her at all, especially since she did the bitchy elevator eyes when Roxy walked into the room. The class seemed to be fun, and the teacher made sure to note that they were going to be trying out 7 musical instruments this term.
Roxy had P.E. with Luke, who also seemed to avoid her there. He hung out with the guy she had recognized as Scotty McLaurin from the photos and a couple of other dudes that kept staring at her. She remembered Michael’s words earlier and felt an odd sort of comfort at the fact that he had warned them about it. P.E. was brutal. Ms. Mettlemeyer had them run 5 miles and play scrimmage volleyball. Roxy knew she would be sore in the morning.
Finally it was the end of the day. She would be learning guitar along with some other people who had not showed up yet to class. The classroom was smaller and dustier than first period geometry. There were seven seats all formed in a u-shaped circle around a bigger master seat. Roxy guessed this was the instructor’s seat. She took the seat on the left side that was the closest, so she could hear better. She decided to check her text messages since she hadn’t had a chance to all afternoon. There were several new responses in their group messages.
Kylie: Miss you guys! Class sucks without you all and that Calum kid.
Francesca: Tell me about. I actually think I miss him more than you guy LOL.
Amanda: Miss you guys too. And Francesca the only reason you feel that way is because Calum likes you.
Francesca: LOL He was really friendly. The rest of these kids just stare and whisper. It’s nerve wracking. We don’t look that exotic do we?
Kylie: Are you kidding me Francesca? Everyone here is mostly blonde haired and blue eyed. Of course we look exotic
Amanda: I met a couple more people. And Kylie that is not true, we aren’t the only Americans here. Angelica Shriver was in my last period and you and her look alike. Trust me, these kids are used to Americans.
Francesca: Says the blonde haired, blue eyed girl that looks like she could be Australian….
Kylie: Roxy where are you?
Amanda: Apparently she is having more fun than us since she can’t even respond….
Roxy chuckled at her friend’s conversation. It was odd being separated from them. Since the first grade, they all had been in the same classes. When they started having multiple classes in middle school, they always had at least one of each other in a class. This trend had carried on until high school. It didn’t feel right, but Roxy guessed this was how she was going to be prepared for when they leave after the term ends to go back to America and she would be stuck in Australia. She closed messages and decided not to respond. She would just have to talk to them after class. She sighed at the feeling of loneliness and put her phone in her pocket.
