Josephina

"Okay, essentials only and then we're out of here."

I grab a shopping basket as I walk into the local grocery store and mentally make a note of what I have to buy.

Let's not forget that woman's tequila, lemon and salt or we'll physically pay for it. But don't we have salt at home already? Oh well...buying a small one won't be too bad.

I silently agree with the little voice in my head and sigh. I work two jobs just to waste that money and hard work on alcohol and occasionally on things to go with that alcohol. I am not lying when I say all the money that I make I don't use. Most of it gets spent on groceries for meals and whatnot and toiletries for home, if I've saved up enough then maybe some appliances that will be helpful for me in cleaning the house or making the food and then I take out a certain amount and store it somewhere in my room. I've been saving up money ever since I started working. My mom however does pay for school fees, water and electricity and obviously the house we live in but that's because when my dad died it was discovered that he had a separate bank account to save up money to pay off the house and other things. It was meant to be for when both my parents retired and if they ever grew tight on money then at least the house was paid off but he died and so up until now it's being used for the house, water, electricity and school. My mom wouldn't dare touch that money for her addictions because it wouldn't be what my father wanted and mainly also because I manage the money.

She knows he wouldn't want her to waste his money but she doesn't care about the fact that he wouldn't want her to be abusing their child.

I shake my head. That type of thinking never got me anywhere up until this point...so it won't get me anywhere now. Let's focus on the shopping and then we can wallow in our sad thoughts.

"Hey Josey!"

Turning around from the shelves of bread in front of me, I see one of the employees waving and walking towards me. I was busy checking the dates of the bread because it's always helpful when you're able to get the latest date there is because that then means that I don't need to shop until that date again. So I usually go shopping once a week for necessities.

"Hi there Sadie." I smile and give her a hug.

"I haven't seen you in a while. I guess that's probably because I've had the stock job for a few months." She answers in giggles.

I smile again enjoying her laughter. She's absolutely adorable. She's only a few years younger than me but still I find her adorable.

"It feels nice being able to chat with customers and actually see some sunshine while on the job right?" I laugh along with her. Usually the stock job means stocking up the shelves before the grocery store opens and occasionally at night when the store closes. The reason for this being that new and fresh produce or products get brought in at different times and the owner would rather have it all stocked when it gets there than waiting till a certain to finally do it.

Sadie had that job for a few months as she mentioned but I'm assuming she's been given the job of either being behind the cash register or she's working the floor in general.

"You have no idea. Do you need any help?" She asks pointing around the grocery store.

"Do you by any chance have like a stationery aisle? I need to get a few things for a project."

She nods and motions me to follow her. I quickly put the bread in my hand held basket and move to follow her. As we're walking to the aisle I needed we pass the liquor aisle. I tap Sadie on the shoulder quickly and tell her that I need to get something from this aisle and then we can move on. Leaving her to stand at the end of the aisle, I quickly take bottle of tequila and walk back to her.
