Josephina
"Josey! Are you okay?"
I smile and nod my head. Clara looks at me, as if I've grown horns and a beard, she points to my face with her mouth open. "You call that okay!?" She exclaims and continues to tell me that having blood all over half of my face is not the definition of okay. Even if the blood is dry.
"Clara, I'm fine." I tell her and gently move her hands out of my face and back down to her side. I smile and pat her shoulder.
"She's not fine." Ezra calls out from behind me and pushes us both into the house gently.
House is an understatement.
This place is huge and I don't know if I'm just imagining it, because my house is a lot smaller in comparison or because it is actually just huge and I'm not imagining it. No matter how much money I make, no matter how many jobs I get, I will never be able to live this sort of life. A life full of luxuries and endless possibilities.
"Come. We're going to the doctor." Clara and Felix both grab hand and start pulling in a direction. Ezra waves and tells us he has some work to do in an office upstairs. He also said that we must tell him what the doctor says about my wound.
"The doctor is here already?" I ask in shock. Ezra literally phoned the doctor when we first bumped into each other today. I guess that was quite a bit ago though.
"The doctor lives on this street, Josey." Felix tells me, as if I was supposed to know that information or something. Like I'm sorry that I didn't think of that.
Must be nice, having money.
"How long is this going to take?" I ask and free my hands from their hold. They look at each other in uncertainty and then look at me. Studying their expressions for a few minutes, I come with the conclusion that they're not telling me something.
"What aren't you telling me?"
Clara bites her lip and gestures for Felix to talk instead of her. Felix gapes at her and then looks at me. "The doctor is doing a full check up."
"What!?" I shout.
Clara grabs my hand again and squeezes. I try to stop walking but Clara pulls me every time I try to walk away. I groan and yank my hand away from her.
"I did not agree to that." I tell them and sigh.
"Josey, it's obvious that you need one." Felix states and motions to the rest of my body which is slightly dirty from the small garden I fell in and then points at my face.
"Not just that but Josey, we've seen you flinching and holding certain body parts in pain." Clara backs up Felix and points to my left arm and then makes a move to hug me. I automatically step back with my hands up and flinch to the side slightly when her arm gets close. She makes a face, as if saying that she just proved her point.
"I appreciate the concern. However, I agreed to come here for my face and nothing else. I'll already be late for work and I'm not going to be even later." I say and my tone lets them know that it's not up for discussion.
I really do appreciate the concern and willingness to help someone who they haven't known for longer than a week and a bit. I've never had so many people want to help me and it's something I'm not used too, so obviously it's not something I'll jump right into at the chance. Besides that, I'm not very happy that they're choosing for me whether or not I get to have a full check up by the doctor. Logically, yes, I need a full on check up on my body because there are a lot of things that actually might need proper medical attention. However, I do not have time for that, I do not have money for that and I do not have enough excuses for that. I cannot do that and have an entire group of people interrogate me about how and why I have what I have on my body. I already have to come up with an excuse as to how I got the wound on my face and I don't have enough excuses to cover up the rest of me.
