Josephina
"Josey! What's going on?"
I dismiss her question and grab her hand. She isn't moving herself and I'm not waiting around for her to finally start moving. She needs to leave before the situation escalates itself even more.
"Back door, Clara. Back door!" I whisper yell at her and start dragging her with me towards the back door.
The back door leads out into a small back yard sort of situation. There is no pool or you know anything big like that but it is big enough for a few things and then that's it. There are still a few things from my childhood, when my dad was alive, that still sit in the back yard today. Neither my mother or I actually use the back yard anymore so everything is overgrown and old.
"There's a gate that leads out of the back yard, use it and leave!" I tell Clara and she just nods in shock and then moves to walk faster with me.
"Brat! Open the fucking door!"
My heartbeat hammers through my chest when she yells again. I try my best to hold the tears at bay and focus on getting Clara out of here. I can already tell, from her rage and annoyance with my existence, that I'm in for a really bad beating tonight.
We make it to the back door, just as the front door is pushed open. From the sound that the front door made against the wall, it is pretty obvious that she used all her force to slam that door open.
"Clara go!" I push her in front of me and follow her out the door into the back yard. She pauses and motions for me to show her where the gate is, that she needs to walk through.
We fast walk towards the gate and then Clara grabs my hand and pulls me to a stop. I frantically look between her and the house, through the windows I can see her shadow moving through the house. I assume she's busy looking for me and the fact that I'm not there is only pissing her off even more.
"Clara, you need to leave." I tell her as calmly as I possibly can. My attention is so divided right now because Clara is not moving and the longer she takes to move her legs and leave, the faster my mother will realize that I'm not inside the house but in fact outside the house and I'm standing here trying to get Clara to leave but also trying to watch out for my mother at the same time.
She shakes her head and pulls me with her. She throws open the gate and runs with me behind her to the front of the house where Alexander's car is. We round the corner and see Alexander bent behind his car with his gun pointing to the very house which my mother is.
"Lex!" Clara yells and runs over to him.
His head shoots in our direction and he breathes a sigh of relief. He does something with the gun, most likely putting on the safety thing, and then puts it back into his pants.
"Don't scare me like." He replies and quickly does a check over Clara and then walks over to me. He holds my shoulders and checks over me as well.
"You two need to leave." I move his hands off his shoulders and back up slightly.
"Josey! What is going on?" Clara asks and holds onto my hand so that I don't move any further away from them.
"Clara, it's okay. Everything will be fine." I tell her and remove her hand from my holding my hand. I smile weakly at her and push her gently towards Alexander.
"You're coming with us." Alexander announces and I shake my head in response.
"No, if I come with she'll follow." I say in response to his statement and start walking back towards the front door.
