Some summers ago....
"Hurry up, Yosuke-kun!" a little girl with chestnut brown hair in pigtails yells to her companion running behind her.
The two children hurriedly make their way to the Metropolitan PD Station as the rain poured mercilessly behind them.
"Wait up please, Tami-chan!" Yosuke Tachibana, a boy with dark, floppy hair and emerald-green eyes wails behind the eight-year old Tamiko Hayase as he desperately tries his best to catch up.
He grimaced as he knew his legs were getting wet under the puddles that surrounded them despite being clad in rain boots and a rain coat.
The two were dismissed early from school and were supposedly headed home when the monsoon rains hit hard.
The minute they reach the Police Station, some police men stopped their tracks when they saw the children as the two quickly removed their shoes and changed them for house slippers.
It wasn't until they recognised the Chairman's daughter as one of the children did they relax and continue to do their thing.
It was almost as if seeing the young Tamiko Hayase was nothing out of the ordinary.
In fact, some of the men smiled, somehow relieved that at least today Tami had a friend with her. It was a bit unusual, seeing how the little girl had always somehow kept to herself that it did come a bit as a shock that the Chairman's daughter wasn't alone this time around.
"Hallo Tami-Chan," one of the Detectives greeted Tami. He was a kind man whom of which Tami recognized having children around her age.
"Hello Officer Kimura!" Tami quickly introduced her friend, Yosuke, who bowed to the officer.
It wasn't until then did Yosuke realize how scary it must be to live in Tami's shoes. It wasn't any wonder now why the kids in their school thought she was weird.
For it wasn't everyday a normal child spent most of their time in company with Police.
For most kids, it was a fantasy play to play cops and robbers. But in reality, hanging out in a Police station that could be filled with criminals, let alone be fascinated by that kind of life was indeed strange.
But Yosuke didn't care.
He was a bit strange himself too.
"Do you know where Officer Nomura is?" Tami asks about her friend Detective Tadanobu Nomura.
"He's out back over at the canteen, I think." The Officer rubs his red beard thoughtfully, recalling that the man, along with Detective Hiroshi Kirisawa had gone out of their workstation earlier for lunch. "Went out for lunch just a few minutes ago."
Tami nodded her thanks and quickly grabbed Yosuke's hand and made a run for it.
"You'll like my friend, Officer Nomura. He's really cool!" Tami's blood red eyes gleamed with excitement to which Yosuke's expression slightly changed briefly when he saw the expression on Tami's face as she described the Officer friend of hers.
