"Tami, about that time," Nomura sighed as he ran a hand along his already disheveled hair.
"What I said to you back then, it wasn't fair of me."
Tami's eyes widened with surprise.
But then again, she expected this from him.
After all, this was Tadanobu Nomura.
He disliked conflict in the workplace since he had an affable reputation to keep.
But somehow, she also knew this wasn't true.
She paused and took a good look at him.
The Deputy Chief appeared more unkempt than usual.
His eyes looked puffy and his clothes a bit worn, like as if he spent more than a few nights wearing the same thing, or at least had not bothered to iron out his clothes.
"What do you mean?" Tami asked as Nomura gave her a hard look. He knew she was bullshitting him and didn't have time to review what had already transpired three weeks ago.
"You did what you had to do," Tami sighed, not wanting to revive that embarrassing moment.
"No, I didn't have to be cruel and to be honest, I hate myself for having done that," Nomura exhaled as if it pained him more that he had hurt her.
"Well, it's done and over with. Would you have called me to apologize?"
"I am apologizing now."
This is useless, Tami rolled her eyes as she was about to leave him right then and there when he suddenly reached out for her wrist.
When he remembered her discomfort at being touched, he quickly pulled away.
"I'll stay," Tami said to which his shoulders sagged with relief.
"Tami, I didn't mean to hurt you. I don't ever want to do that to you again."
Don't cry, don't you dare cry, Tami mentally counted to ten before she finally took a long look at him.
"But you don't feel the same way—"
"That's where you're wrong," Nomura argued softy.
She felt like she had been struck on the head.
What...the...
"Tami, you've always been important to me. Since the day I saved you from that fire, I have been bound to you. My feelings for you since that day were never to gain favor from your Father. I hope you understand that you've always been important to me."
Tami nodded back in response as Nomura continued.
"Since the day I met you, I promised I would be honest to you. Lately, I've made a fool out of myself going against that honor. What I said back then has nothing to do with you or your feelings."
