He's Not So Bad

I followed Bucky's gaze and realized he was fidgeting with his hands. He wore a jacket and I got a glimpse of is left hand.
Metal.

It all fit together. Why he looked familiar. He worked for Hydra.
The Winter Soldier, the one who had helped bring down S.H.I.E.L.D.

I kept my face emotionless as my thoughts ran.

"Well you must be tired." Coulson turned his attention to me, "I'll show you to your room."

"Yeah."I frowned at the floor, following him out.

He led me down several of the halls on the same floor, finally stopping at a door.

"Here you are, I hope you don't mind, I took the opportunity to customize your walls." He smiled.

"My walls?" I asked before stepping through the door. the room looked like a normal bedroom, a big bed, white sheets, a nightstand, ceiling lights lit the room brightly, nothing out of the ordinary.
Then I glanced at the wall on my right side. A number of knifes and guns hung on the wall perfectly organized.

"May I?" I asked, he nodded and I picked up a rifle off the wall.

"There are all yours." Coulson said as i examined the weapon in my hands for several seconds. One thing wouldn't stop nagging at me.

"That man...." I said, breaking the silence, "Why is he here?"

"There's a lot you don't know." Coulson tilted his head to the side slightly.

"I know he worked for Hydra," I said through my teeth, "That's enough information."

Coulson calmly walked to the desk near by, with a stroke of his finger the surface lit up: a holotable. I walked next to him as he pulled up a number of files.

Sergeant James Buchanan Barnes, only member of the Howling Commandos who hadn't returned. The man had been experimented on, a victim, made into a weapon.

"I think this is too much information for one day, get some sleep." Coulson said to me as I let out a yawn. He left the room and left me alone with my thoughts.

I woke up several hours later, it was still light outside. I walked around the room, opening the closet, and looking for something to wear. I found it full of clothes including several of my old uniforms. I took a shower and put on jeans a black tank top and my old black combat boots I always wore. I left my room and walked the empty halls, not sure where everyone was, I decided to go back to the first room.

I pushed one of the doors open and slipped in quietly. Rogers, Romanoff, Barnes and Coulson were all focused on a projection of a map on the counter, Stark a bit more focused on his drink. Only Natasha noticed me standing quietly by the doors.

"Y/n!" She stood up from her chair, quickly walking toward me, and threw her arms around me. She pulled back and held my shoulders

"I have a surprise for you." She said excitedly as I felt everyone's eyes on us.

"Um okay?" I chuckled.she towed me my my hand  to the white coffee table in front of the couches, on it, sat a large metal case.

She opened it excitedly, turning the case so i could see the contents. I was greeted by two black hand guns and a black and blue AR-15.

"Woah." I said to myself picking up the rifle and examining it. i vaegly heard the men to my right go back to their conversation.

I glanced at them, spotting Bucky watching me, he quickly dropped his gaze to the plans in front of him. I looked back at Natasha who was looking from Bucky to me with a smile.

"What?" I asked.
"Nothing." she shrugged as she snatched up the scope from the case and handed it to me. I turned my back to the guys ignoring what just happened. I took the scope and started mounting it on the weapon as she picked up the hand guns from the case when I heard the double doors opening.

"I heard Natasha and Y/N were coming." I heard a familiar voice, "Finally, someone to talk to that doesn't obsess about fighting, suits, and guns."

I dropped my hands, holding the riffle across my stomach, pointing the barrel down as Natasha and I turned to look at her.

"Crap." I whispered to Nat, "Is that supposed to be us?" I bit my lip.

"Think so." Nat loudly whispered back to me.

I couldn't help but smile as Pepper took a deep breath and turned to Tony, "You've got a meeting, lets go." Tony calmly refilled his glass before following Pepper through the doors.

"Very expensive couch." Tony's head popped in the doorway, "Don't use it." he pointed at everyone in the room then closed the door. I turned to look at the white couch, as everyone else did.

"That is the ugliest thing I've ever seen." I said out loud to which everyone laughed. It didn't even look comfortable. I placed the gun back in its case as Nat did the same.

"Come on. Nat nudged me with her elbow as she closed the case.

Only two chairs were empty now, one beside Steve and the other beside Barnes. The only two empty chairs/stools were next to Bucky, Nat took the furthest one and I was left without a choice. He wore jeans and a plain white t-shirt, his hands rested on the counter but he quickly crossed his arms across his chest, as if trying to hide something.

"What are we looking at ?" I asked looking at the floor plans in front of us.

"It's a S.H.I.E.L.D. facility we want back." Coulson frowned at the plans.

They explained the plan extensively: We break up into partners; Nat and Steve... and me and Barnes. We go in quietly, taking out as many as necessary.

"When do we leave?" I asked.

"Right now." Coulson said as he shut off the image. We scattered, going our separate ways to get ready.

I opened my closet, pulling out my old uniform: a black catsuit. I set a gun holster, one on each of my thighs,  my riffle strapped to my back, extra mags on my belt, and a knife in my boot. I put my hair in a thick  braid down my left side and walked back to meet with the group. I let myself in silently spotting Nat and Steve going over final details.

I stood beside them and Nat handed me a tiny ear piece. I took it from her hand, placing it in my ear, sliding my index finger across the smooth surface and turning it on.

The doors opened as he walked in. He wore a black combat uniform, holding a large weapon in his fully exposed metal arm.

i found myself staring walked towards us, his eyes focused on me. His eyes looking at me from head to toe. It took me a few seconds to rip my gaze away from him, I quickly looked at the plans once more, trying to pay attention to what Steve was saying.

Barnes stood next to me in the quinjet as we approached our destination and it was necessary to be dropped off at a distance so the aircraft wouldn't signal our arrival.

I walked with Barnes through the dark dense woods, only the crunching of leaves and twigs accompanied us.

"It's right through those trees." Barnes' deep voice broke the silence.

"We're about to make contact." Nat's voice sounded from my earpiece as Barnes and I crouched at the edge of the clearing, getting my first real view of the men guarding the metal door on the side of a mountain.

"Standing by for your signal." I spoke to Nat through my earpiece.

"On my mark." I heard Steve's voice.

"You ready?" Bucky smiled at me.

"Now." Steve spoke.

"Yeah, it'll be fun." I smiled at Barnes as I took my rifle and fired the first shot.
