Chapter 6

Aiden's POV

The entire pack was here, some stood, some sat, but everyone was waiting tensely and anxiously for the news of our Alpha. The doctors and nurses have been in the hospital theatre for a good three hours now and we were all on edge. Sammy was holding a fidgity Faybelle who woke up because she could feel the tension, anxiety and desperation in the air.

I watched Caleb who was seated next to his mate and I couldn't help but notice that he wasn't at ease as I knew him to be. He nodded along to whatever Daniaal was saying but kept glancing at the door and his watch before continuing to bounce his leg.

"Caleb can I talk to you?", I asked and watched his head shoot up. He studied me for a few seconds before he nodded.

We walked past the pack and went outside. The sun was starting to peak out and there was a morning chill in the air.

"I'm sorry for probing you with questions in there. It's just... Liam is my eldest son and we moved here for him. For all our kids to have a better life. I can't loose him. I just can't.

Whatever happened between you two is your business but I - I don't know if they'll be able to bring him back. But... I have hope. All I'm saying is you need to be there for him. He cares about you and I know you care about him. Not as lovers but as friends. He needs you as his closest and oldest friend to help him now more than ever. Please. I'll speak to Daniaal if I have to. Just pl-please help him", I said and looked away quickly as tears spilled down my cheeks.

"Aiden... I was planning to anyway. No, Daniaal is my responsibility and I have to tell him. I guess I shouldn't have compromised my one friendship for my mate. It's not right to loose friends simply because your partner doesn't like them. That's my mistake. But yes, I'll be there for him. We won't loose him", He said firmly and I smiled gratefully at him.

I hugged him quickly and tightened my arms around him when he burst into tears.

"I ca-can't l-l-lose him. I can't", He stuttered and I sniffed softly.

Oh Luna. He's hurting so badly.

"Like you said. We won't. Now come on. We have to go back in there", I said and he nodded.

We walked back inside quietly and I immediately picked up Faybelle when she made grabby hands at me. Christian and Lirissa, Caleb's parents, sat down next to us and I smiled at them.

"Our boy is going to be okay. He's a fighter", Christian said and squeezed by thigh affectionately.

I nodded and cleared my throat when the tears threatened to choke me again.

Liam grew up seeing Caleb and was over at their house more often than not. Caleb was over at ours just as much. I can see why Christian always referred to him as "our boy". He was just as much as Liam's family as we were.

I heard the door open and we all shot to our feet.

"How is he doctor?", I asked anxiously. I tried to peak into the room but Michelle stopped me.

"He's finally stable now. When you brought him in his heart rate was extremely slow. He flat lined twice during the operation but he's stable now. He drank poison and his werewolf abilities tried to heal him with the poison inside of him. We had to flush out the poison before carefully inspecting his stomach, which was slightly bloated. He's going to be alright", She said finally and we all breathed a sigh of relief.

Sammy clung to me and Hunter and Madelyn Rose came to hug us as we all cried tears of joy. He's going to be okay.

"He's going to be okay Dad", Hunter said and wiped his tears.

"Can we see him?",Madelyn Rose asked.

"I'm afraid not Madelyn Rose. He's finally stabilized and we don't want to risk him getting an infection. Maybe tomorrow or the day after. He should be okay by then. I've put him in a medically induced coma to give him time to heal. Oh and he was clutching this in his hand", Michelle said as she brought out a chain. The Ying and Yang pendent hang at the end of the chain.

Oh Liam.

I took it quickly when I spied Caleb turn pale. I knew that chain very well.

"Thank you for everything Michelle. Thank you for bringing my son back to me. Everyone get back home. You should all get some sleep. Liam can take guests later. Thank you everyone", Sammy said before he turned around to address everyone.

The pack nodded, offered their gratitudes and condolences before they listened to their Alpha and went home. Everyone was feeling lighter knowing he was alive.

"We'll take her Dad", Hunter said before he took a sleeping Faybelle from my arms.

"You should get some rest Dad, Papa. Don't stay up too late. We're going to need our rest", Madelyn Rose said before she smiled and hugged us good night.

I watched them go before I turned back to Sammy.

I took out the chain and showed him the pendent.

"Oh my poor baby. Aiden what's going on with Liam and Caleb? Liam hasn't gotton over Caleb and Caleb clearly hasn't gotton over Liam. This isn't a simple break up because Caleb found his mate. Hell, all feelings should have disappeared by now. Liam is almost 28 years old and he still hasn't met his mate. I don't think it's simply his refusal to feel the bond with someone. He completely fell apart when Caleb walked out of his life. Daniaal annoys the fuck out of me and I don't like him. Caleb is like a second son to me and I don't like that Daniaal asked Caleb to leave Liam alone. And Christian allowed him to? He knew Caleb loved Liam more than anyone. How can he allow him to break up their friendship?", He growled out the last part, his eyes started turning that beautiful shade of blue signaling his wolf is present.

"Don't get angry over the past. We can't do anything about it now baby. But we can damn well sure make sure that our son is going to be happy from now on. I will ground him if I have to, to stay in our home and allow us to help him. He's still our son and I have the right to do what's best for him. As for Liam and Caleb. I don't know baby. I just don't know. I didn't think it was possible to still be so completely in love with someone else even after you've already met your mate. Liam needs our help now, more than ever. He needs all of our help. I've asked Caleb to be there for him and he has agreed. Caleb is going to be okay. He is. We will all do everything to help him get better. He needs his family now, not judging him for his actions that he's done, he doesn't need to ashamed, he needs to be loved and shown that we forgive him and we love him", I said and Sammy smiled and wrapped his arms around me.

"I love you so much", He said and kissed my lips softly.

"I love you too baby", I said smiling down at the handsome man that was mine.

"Come on, let's get to bed. We're going to need our rest", He said and I nodded.

I put the chain back into my pocket and only two questions remained in my mind. Will our son ever be the same? Will he be the man we've always known him to be or will he become someone else?
