Oddly enough, this wasn't the first time Lexi had been hung upside down over a pit of fire. The other time had been on her 21st birthday and had involved a lot more vodka though. This time wasn't quite so enjoyable, but at least she wasn't destined to get a hangover afterwards. That was if they made it out alive. The Doctor had been quiet for a while now.
"Hey," she tried to wiggle her chains over and poke him.
"I'm concentrating." He dismissed her. He sounded annoyed. But then again he always sounded annoyed.
"On what?"
"On trying to get us out of here."
"And how's it going?"
"Not very well."
"Oh. Well them concentrate harder."
"I'm trying but an irritating human keeps interrupting me."
"How rude. Tell her to shut up then."
"I will do. Shut up." They remained in silence after that. The fire beneath them got hotter and the chains around their ankles began to sting.
...10 hours earlier...
Lexi awoke feeling surprisingly well considering the amount she had drunk the night before. That meant something was very wrong. She wasn't used to feeling like a normal person in the morning, and no one, not even Dionysius himself, could escape a hangover after last night. Maybe her body was becoming immune? Maybe she'd drunk so much that she was in fact still drunk and had yet to feel the affects of actions? She heard a whirring around her and had a vague recollection of that noise. Wait- where was she? It was a circular bedroom painted in browns and creams, nice but very masculine with no personal touches. She hadn't a clue who it belonged to or how she'd got there. She hated when that happened, it always got a bit awkward. She sat up, still in her dress from the night before and walked into the corridor outside. It looked like it belonged to sci fi movie. She followed it round and when she heard a man talking to himself she followed that instead. In the centre of the room was a large cylinder with control panels around it which was where the whirring noise was coming from.
"Hello?" Lexi asked, unsure of her surroundings.
"You're finally up." An older Scottish man commented as he came down the stairs, a screwdriver in hand.
"I think I know you, don't I? You're that doctor guy!"
"That's me." That explained the clinical feel.
"Sorry about last night. I must have got really drunk and then literally started seeing stars!"
"About that, I gave you something to cure the hangover."
"Really? Am I able to get a bucket of that stuff." The Doctor guy looked at her strangly.
"Time to get you home then."
"I can walk from here. Where are we again?"
"Currently between Earth and Mars."
"Yeah, that's really funny. Now seriously, where are we."
"Look outside if you don't believe me." And so she did and was met by similar visions to what she'd had last night. This time she couldn't blame it on being drunk.
"You've drugged me." She groaned. Why did she always attract the nutters?
"No, I'm a Time-Lord over 900 years old from the planet Gallifrey. This is my TARDIS and I'm now going to take you home and wipe your memory."
"Fine," She huffed. "We can play that game. I was meant to be going into work today but what the hell! It's not like I turn up most days anyway."
"What are you talking about?"
"Yeah, yeah, you're a Time-Lord and all that."
"I'll prove it to you. I'm going to take you home right now."
"Go on then."
"I will." He pulled a lever and Lexi felt the 'TARDIS' rock.
"What's this supposed to do then?" She pulled another one.
"DON'T TOUCH THAT!" The Doctor roared but they were already being thrown off there feet.
.......
"This is all your fault." The Doctor said.
"How? How is this my fault?" Lexi demanded. She was annoyed, she needed to pee and she was hungry. A little thirsty as well.
"You just couldn't keep your hands to yourself, could you? Oh no! You had to push the big red button."
"It wasn't a big red button, it was a grey lever actually."
"Did the same job though." Lexi glared at him and gave her chains a pull. She noticed a little latch on the end of one link and clicked it. The chains opened and her head swung nearer to the fire. She screamed but didn't burn to death which she was glad about. She twisted herself over and undid the chains some more so that she landed on the ground beside the fire pit.
"Turns out the chains aren't locked. You can undo them at the side." She swayed slightly as the blood left her head and spread through to her numb legs and hands. The Doctor didn't do anything at first but then reluctantly undid his as well.
"I knew that." He muttered.
"Yeah right. If you did we wouldn't have been hung upside down for the past what? Three hours. You're welcome by the way."
"Shut up." An alarm sounded above.
"Great."
"Let's go this way." The Doctor headed to the east door.
"No, go over this way." Lexi went to the right.
"Will you stop acting like a child and just follow me for once! You won't last 5 minutes without me."
"I'll take my chances." Lexi walked towards her door and despite his better interests, The Doctor was intrigued by why she hadn't followed him. "Because," she said. "I know for a fact that that's where the boiler room is that powers all of this. Go in there and you die." The Doctor, after much deliberation, reluctantly followed her.
"This doesn't mean your right."
"Yes it does."
"Shut up." They started running when they heard footsteps coming behind them.
"If you're The Doctor," Lexi whispered. "Can I be The Nurse?"
"No."
"Why not?"
"Firstly, it's a stupid name. Secondly, it's suggests that we're in some kind of partnership which we're not. You're going home as soon as possible."
.....5 minutes later....
"Hi, I'm The Nurse."
"No she isn't, don't listen to her. Shut up."
