After I explained what I could to Anna, she kept trying to dig further and ask more, but there was nothing more to say and I had homework. However, after I had successfully shoved her out of my room, I couldn't help but think about where Jack and I stood.

I wanted to know and it had been some time since we'd talked about it. Maybe I could casually bring it up tomorrow during biology? That could work as long as I kept it discreet.

The next morning of school I stopped by my locker to pick up my things and I felt a paper being placed on my head. As I took it off I looked down and saw it was biology homework and the same one as mine. I then looked at the top of the page and Jack's name was there. I looked up and saw Jack leaning against the locker with his head tilted. He had a small smile and squinted eyes, I raised an inquiring eyebrow.

"I was wondering if you could be a great and kind human being and help me with the few questions of homework I have left." I looked at the mostly blank paper and sighed.

"This is more than a few. What was hard?" I've come to know that Jack was very diligent with his work and would finish it unless he really didn't have time or was struggling. So I knew to pass little judgement towards him.

He huffed, "I understand the first half of the assignment, the reasoning and facts and whatnot, but once we get to the math part I get confused, like with what data goes with which equation."

I looked over the work and saw what he meant. He'd struggled with our last partner assignment at the same part. I had to do most of it. 

"Okay, we can go over it during lunch, but right now we should head to choir, the bells about to ring and I don't want to take any chances with Mr. Levin." Jack nodded and took back the paper. I grabbed what I needed from my locker and closed it.

"Has anyone gotten on his bad side? I heard Spencer had a mishap last Friday." 

Last week I had to explain to Jack of why he needed to be wary of Mr. Levin at this current time and not annoy him. With the show getting closer he was always really tense and just a tad short tempered. Jack understood and preceded with caution at every choir rehearsal. He constantly checked with me whenever he had to go speak with him about something. It was kind of cute but kind of tiresome too, but I understood his nerves. It was his first performance with this director and the choir, he needed everything to go smoothly.

"Yeah I heard so too, but other than that I think we're good," I said with a nod. Jack was quiet and kept his eyes forward. Then he started filling his cheeks with air and blowing it out. I'd learned that he usually stayed silent and then did that weird tick when he was mulling over something, particularly not something great.

His very careful caution to Mr. Levin, his struggling in bio, and this habit popping up, it must be the nerves for the performance. It was starting to get tougher and it was his last year, every senior was going all out.

"How are you doing on your parts? Any song you really like?" He looked over at me and let out a small breathy laugh.

"Yeah, I feel like we can do a lot with the theme we were given. Musicals always seems like a lively option. So much to choose from. I'm pretty excited for our finale piece, "You Can't Stop The Beat."

"Oh yes! I feel so good about that one! All of us coming together just belting out with such a positive message. It's going to be great," I said looking at him straight, wanting him to get my non-verbal message that everything would be okay. He seemed to understand and gave me a small smile while opening the door to the choir room. I hadn't even realized we already arrived.
