Chapter 14 ~ Expedition (Part 2)

I slowly opened my eyes to the sun above. I slowly sat up and winced in pain. My head was pounding and I had large gash along my shoulder. I was just outside of the forest. It's a miracle no titans have came yet. Titans... The expedition! "Jake! Levi!" I frantically called out. What ever happened to them?!

I tried to stand up but quickly dropped to the ground. I must have broken my ankle or something. It was purple and swollen. "Emma!" Someone shouted and I heard 3dmg going off. I looked up to see Levi sprinting towards me. "I'm so sorry it took so long to get back."

"It's okay." I said, still a little dazed. "How long has it been?"

"About 20 minutes." he answered.

"How's everyone else?"

"They're all okay." He said. "What hurts on you?"

"Just my head and ankle. I also got cut really bad." He took a look at my injuries then picked me up bridal-style. "What are you doing?"

"Well you obviously can't walk on your own." He averted his gaze.

"Thank you, Levi." I smiled. "Where are we going though?"

"To the wagons. Erwin signaled to retreat. There's been too many casualties." That's awful...

We continued going for a while. We left late this morning so it can't be that late, right? "Levi?"

"Hmm?"

"What time is it?"

"Probably eight." That long?! "We'll probably have to camp out for the night. They've probably already left."

"Why would they do that? They shouldn't just stop looking for their strongest soldier immediately."

"Sometimes you just have to keep going." He said. We spotted a small bunch of trees and decided to sleep there for the night. Levi strapped us both to the tree so we wouldn't fall out in our sleep. "Do you need anything?" He asked.

"I'm good, thank you." I smiled.

"Well then you better get to sleep, we'll have a big day tomorrow, too."

"You need to sleep too, Levi."

"I will." He said. "Goodnight."

"Goodnight." I yawned and quickly fell asleep.

Levi's POV

Her beauty never changes. The moonlight beautifully shown across Emma's peaceful, sleeping face. I unstrapped myself and moved closer to her. I played with a strand of her hair before stroking her cheek. I soon found myself slowly moving inward. Right before I touched her lips with mine I snapped out of it. I shook my head and strapped myself back to the tree. She's not mine.

Time skip

Emma's POV

I woke up early the next morning, almost forgetting where we were and what happened. I stretched and found Levi right next to me. Did he move in his sleep? Maybe he got cold. "Levi." I gently shook him awake.

"Huh? Oh, sorry." He woke up and unstrapped himself from the tree.

"It's okay." I said. "Should we get going?" He nodded and we continued moving across the large field until we heard the familiar stomping noise.

"Tch, not now." Levi grumbled. He quickly unhooked one of his straps and wrapped it around my waist, strapping me to him.

"Levi I'll just slow you down!" I said.

"No, I'm not letting you die like this." And with that he took off towards the titans, killing them off one by one. It was amazing getting to see him in action, I just wish it could be under better circumstances.

At last all the titans were dead and we landed back on the ground. "Are you okay?" He asked. I nodded and unstrapped myself.

"Levi! Emma!" I looked up to see Hanji and Moblit coming to us on their horses. "What happened?!"

"She got hit by a titan." Levi answered. "Can you take us back?" She nodded so Levi helped me on Hanji's horse while he got onto Moblit's.

We eventually made it back to the walls and to HQ. Levi then helped me get to the infirmary. "Emma!" Jake suddenly appeared in my line of vision.

"Hey..." I managed to get out before finally falling asleep from exhaustion.
