Song: Far from home (Raven) by Sam Tinnez
Andy's POV:
I continue to visit her. Taking her different music to listen to...reading her different books...even a few personal poems...songs that I have written. I even take in the guitar on some days hoping that something will trigger her brain and she will just mysterious wake up. I have gotten really close to her mom...so close that she has told me so much about her growing up and even brought in pictures of her childhood...it's like I know everything about her as if we actually grew up together.
I have never gotten this close to someone. I continue to pray every day for her...hoping that one day she will just open her eyes and see me there with her. Of course it might freak her out considering that she has never met me.
I finish out the school year and start working officially at the nursing home as a physical therapist. I also continue to work on the farm...helping wherever they need me. It's hard to believe a whole year has gone by and she is still sleeping in her deep sleep. I walk into her room and there she is just as beautiful as ever.
Yes...still laying in the same position. I walk over to move the curtain some to get the sun out of her face not that it really matters but if it was me I wouldn't want it in my face. I turn around and walk over to her placing the ear buds in her ears to let her hear the beat to the music and then I start massaging her.
Her arms are completely healed now and you can barely see some of the scars. Some are still so vibrant and I know they will be there for the rest of her life. When I am finished...I brush her hair out. Not that it is a mess or anything but it just seems like one of those things that need to be done.
When I am done with that, I take the ear buds out and set my phone off to the side on the table. I grab my guitar and then sit in the chair by her bed and start to play. I look up at her every now and then thinking that she will be smiling right back at me...saying that she loves my song choice for the day...but nothing. I start another song...figured one more won't hurt...it's not like I got any plans for tonight.
When I stop, I hear a quiet voice. I glance up and she has her eyes open...looking right at me...holy shit...soft brown eyes glisten right back at me."Oh my god...you...you are awake!" I hurriedly put my guitar down and stand up next to her.
"Why did you stop playing...it was nice...where am I? Kade what are you doing here?"
I move closer to her so that she can get a better look at me. "I'm Andy..."
"Oh....sorry I thought...I thought you were someone else." She tries to sit up.
"It's ok...I'm just the therapist...please don't try to get up let me go get the doctor."
"Doctor...no...I...I...don't need a doctor...I'm fine. Where am I?"
"You are in a nursing home...you been in a coma."
"What...seriously...for how long?"
"It's been almost two years...look you really don't need to get up. Your body is not use to walking...it's not ready for that." I keep trying to coax her back into the bed but she keeps trying to get up. So I let her and of course the moment she tries to stand up she falls right into my arms.
"Shit...why can't I just stand up?" She practically yells at me.
"You have been here for quite some time...being in the coma might have caused a few other problems...come on get back in bed." I help her back in and she starts to cry. "You are going to be alright you know...it's just going to take time getting your body to do what you want."I hand her a tissue and then text her mom to come up there. Maybe if she sees her, it will calm her down.
