If I wrote a note to God Ok, I'll Bite. Check out my actual letter at the end. Let's take the silliness of this song lyric by lyric. All lyrics will be in italics and my response is in unitalicized font.I would speak what's in my soul. I don't think I have a soul, because I don't know what someone says when they say soul. What I say is soul is probably different from what you mean when you say soul. So far, scientists who try to "weigh" or "measure" the soul have come up with bunk. So, I guess when I say soul, I mean my own consciousness which is a byproduct of my brain. If I changed this lyric, I would go to, "I would speak what's in my mind."I'd ask for all the hate to be swept away. There are two paths I want to take... lets take both. 1. The Problem of Evil. If a deity is all-powerful and all-knowing, then it has the power to stop all the evil things in the world, but chooses not to. If the deity is just a creator type deity and cannot interfere with the creation, then they are not all-powerful and asking for anything is pointless.
2. Its all apart of God's Plan- So "God's Plan" includes childhood cancer, parasites and viruses that make you bleed out of every orifice, raping humans, hate, bigotry, and suffering. Why would anyone worship that deity? If the deity is all powerful, then there is no reason why the deity could not create a world where these things do not occur. The deity knows every hair on your head. It created your brain. It created the very path you are on, but couldn't be bothered in all these years to set up a path where these things are selected out of the gene pool like we do with breeding animals or crops.
But lastly, if it is all part of the deity's plan aren't you being a bit presumptuous that you know better than the all-knowing deity. "Hi god, I know you are busy, but if you got a second... could you get rid of the pesky hate in the world? Or childhood leukemia... that would be cool, ya know?"
For love to overflow I would encourage compassion, empathy, and critical thinking which I think would help us become better as a society and species. Love alone can be damaging, but this is a song so we can let this one go.
If I wrote a note to God I know its a song, but let's talk about indoctrination. When you want to reinforce certain behaviors, one way religions stop critical thinking is to tell people WHAT to think instead of HOW you can determine the truth. The problem with religious thinking is that trusting an authority to tell you the truth leads to believing into things that may not be true.
I'd pour my heart out on each page According to the Christian doctrine, "God has written the law on your heart." Emotions can lead to less critically thinking; it makes humans prone to overreact before looking at the data.
I'd ask for war to end and for peace to mend this world. The war that would not be here, if the deity poofed it to non existence.
I'd say, I'd say
I'd say give us the strength to make it through As a species, humans are survivors. If your deity created you, it would already give you the strength you need. If your deity doesn't plan to give you the strength needed, it's on your deity not you.
Help us find love 'cause love is overdue. I understand the frustration. I also wish people would lead with compassion and empathy instead of allowing fear and anger to color their actions. However, we are seeing an increase of non-religiousness and that is leading to secular protections for all humans.
And it seems like so much is going wrong. Again, this is part of God's plan... so is it really wrong? If the deity doesn't exist, then it makes sense that humans would struggle to figure out morals and ethics. Let's talk about Morality real quick. How does one talk about morals if they do not believe in an singular deity that sets the standard? We, as a society and a species, decide what end goal we want.
