"Be mentally prepared for an essay in two lessons," Miss Simmons says the second the bell rings.
"Last period right?" Landon asks Elaine when we all get up.
"Yeah," she answers and then looks at him. "But not for her. She's detentioned."
Detentioned?
"Her? By who?"
"Ferguson."
She looks at her phone when it rings and then points behind her. "I've gotta go, the meeting. Good luck Hayden."
"Thanks," I say.
I walk towards my locker as usual to leave my things and ask where to go for the detention, but when Landon shows up at my locker as I'm about to close it, my plans (I can guess) disappear.
"Why did you get detentioned?" he asks.
"I wasn't paying attention," I simply explain.
"You?"
"Yeah."
He's so different from before, and I don't like it honestly. Does this mean that to get him to tolerate me, I for real have to risk my life? I saved Jordan, so what? I needed to get out of there as well, but they make it sound like I've jumped into the fire for him. I don't want him to pay me back by talking to me.
Calm down.
"For how long?"
"One and a half hour I think."
"It starts at four. You've got half an hour. Let's go see Dylan."
I don't want him being this friendly with me, especially with that reason. Still, I follow him outside to the field, seeing Dylan give orders to his players.
"Three eighty," he says. "That's the main plan. I want him to hurt."
"Who are you beating up?" Landon asks, nodding at every guy and getting one nod in response. I am greeted by smiles.
"Set it up."
He walks towards us, smiling at me but then turning into the serious Dylan he's transformed into a lot the past time. "Calm your ass before I give you the news."
"Spit it out Dylan."
"Do you want me to leave?" I ask, not wanting to be a part of this.
