Four years later
~~~~~~~~~~"They're all here Hayden," Kaitlyn says as she enters my room. "It's time."
I take one last glance at myself in the mirror; at Hayden Kendricks Rivera, soon turning into Hayden Fernandez, who just a week earlier received her doctor's degree. This is the moment I've been dreaming of the past four years while studying the thick books, watching the surgeries that were the university's definition of class, and while I've been sleeping. The only moment I've been longing for. "You're beautiful."
I turn to her, a smile on my lips when I see the way she looks at me. Kaitlyn, my best friend.
When Elaine turned nineteen, the lawyers of the company Landon's dad and John owned gave her a call, saying that the company was hers. Landon's dad had ordered that no matter what, the next boss of the company had to have turned eighteen, so it would be assured that he or she at least would've gotten their high school diploma. Elaine accepted the offer after talking to Landon, and now they're running the business as two brokers, even though they don't have the right education. They were given courses and according to law, the company was still Elaine's, so she can do whatever she wants with it, and what she wanted, was to give Landon the fifty percents she said were his. Isaac is one of the lawyers of the company now, but he still works at another firm. Thomas is handling the economy, while Parker got a job through one of his friends as the boss over a group of people in an IT company. He eventually started dating Emma; it went slowly at first, but a while later they were confident enough with the whole thing. Kaitlyn said bye to Julian and her parents and bought an apartment in Phoenix together with Dylan. They're both still studying; Kaitlyn is aiming for a master's degree in psychology and Dylan is headed towards high school teaching, but they have part time jobs as well. They recently got a dog. His name is Buff.
Despite changing paths, we're still really involved in each other's lives. We make sure to meet at least once a month at Mamá's or any of our own places to stay in touch and give each other the details of our lives. Our relationship hasn't changed a bit; we're still Isaac's psychopaths.
"You ready sugar?" Elaine asks and enters.
"I think so," I tell them. "But I need to tell you something."
"Sure."
They both look really beautiful in their almost matching light pink dresses. I just gave them the color and left the shopping part to them. Two months before, they were running around in all kinds of boutiques and malls, looking for matching light pink dresses, that ended up being in one of the boutiques close to Boutique de Jean. They're both long, maxi dresses with a not too deep V-neck and straps that go behind their necks, leaving their backs bare. Simple, but beautiful.
