"Hey," I answer his call.
"H-," I hear before sharp and heavy breaths fill the phone.
"Landon?"
My heartbeats increase in pace as I try telling myself everything's fine and to remain calm so Elaine's and Jordan's attentions aren't drawn to me instead of the movie. "Landon? Where are you?"
"I'm.... o-outside."
I hang up and turn my head to Elaine.
"Elaine," I say silently. She turns to me, already sensing the wrongness going on. "Can you take him to his room?"
She doesn't waste a second to argue and ask what's going on. She doesn't even nod. The only sign showing she heard what I said is the upcoming ten seconds;
"Okay enough movie time for today buddy," she says and pauses the movie.
"Nooo!" Jordan whines. "Laney!"
"Come on, let's go study. I'll help you with math."
"I've already done math."
"Vamos. Come on."
Let's go.
She lifts him up and nods once to me before disappearing into Jordan's room. The second the door closes, I'm up on my feet, storming through the door like a maniac, expecting the worst. For the first time, my expectations weren't too high; his shirt is bloody and wet and he's pale.
"Landon?"
The sight of him like this scares me. Even when he wanted to talk to me last night it wasn't as bad as right now.
I walk over to him and grab his face, trying to figure out whether the blood is his or not, but he takes down my hands immediately. "What's going on?"
"I...," he starts, not lifting his head. "I'll tell you... let's j-just get inside."
His steps to his room are heavy, he's dragging himself towards his bed.
"Landon?"
"I found him," he says, stopping my world.
Noah. He found him.
"What did you do?" I dare ask, but I don't know if I dare hear the answer.
