A loud voice and the groaning of multiple voices woke me up from my wonderful dream.
"Rise and shine, ladies! Your first complete day at camp starts now! Let's go to the showers, then after that we are going to the breakfast hall!" Trisha called out.
I squinted my eyes open as I groggily propped myself up on my elbows. "It's so early." I groan.
"Stop being such a baby. It's only 6:45. We used to wake the campers up at 5:45. You guys are lucky." Trisha counters.
"I don't wanna do anything." I say under my breath as I stretch and yawn.
Finally finding the resolve to get up, I push myself off my bed and pull out my duffel which I kept underneath my bunk. I searched for an outfit comfortable enough for the hike that we were doing today. There's a small mountain lining the edge of the camp, so we were going to go through stations on the hill. Boring, I know.
Finally picking an outfit, I call for Ada and together we walk towards the showers. "Remember, you can't spend no more than 10 minutes when you take a shower!" A volunteer calls as we head inside. I groan internally. 10 minutes?! How am I supposed to do that? My minimum shower time is 15 minutes, yet they expect me to do it in only 10?
I sigh as I use the bathroom first before hopping into the shower. This sucks, I thought as the warm water first hit my skin. After a few minutes, steam was started to rise and I scrubbed myself with the bar of soap I brought. Once I rinsed off, I dried myself off with my towel and stepped forward a little so that I wouldn't get water onto the clothes that I would be changing into. Once I was changed I headed out to my cabin mates.
Once everyone was done, Trisha did role call and herded everyone to the place where we would start the hike. Ada walked up beside me and began talking about camp so far.
"Oh my gosh, you will not believe who I just saw." Ada begins.
"Who?" I ask.
"Christopher Paoli."
"No. Way."
Christopher Paoli is Ada's longtime crush, which I learned about while we were waiting for everyone to get done with showering. She's been in love with him for four years, yet she's never once confessed. Chris is 5'11" with a lean build, fair skin, and blonde hair
"This is your chance! You might be able to get the guy of your dreams." I say excitedly.
Ada immediately blushes and looks away. "No, what if he rejects me? We were best friends when we were little and still have a close relationship. I don't want to danger that over a small crush."
"Well, how does he react when you talk to him now. Does he fidget, or turn a bit red?"
"Now that you mention it, yeah he does. But he always wants to do some sort of physical activity so I've always linked the fidgeting to him wanting to play sports or something."
This bih- I slap my face and groan. This dense idiot. "Ada, honey." I smile sweetly. "Has anyone ever told you that you are dense as fuck?"
She looks confused. "Dense? How?"
I deadpan over to her and flick her forehead. "You'll figure it out." I say.
After we're done talking I've finally realized that we were at the place where we had to go in order to start the hike. The instructor tells us about what plants to avoid and how to get around safely. He hands each of us a map and a whistle with a tracking device implanted in it, so once we blow into in to it others could find us quickly in case we were lost. I put the map into the little backpack I brought along with my water.
