When I wake up the next morning I immediately start packing. Today was our final day at camp and I needed to be ready. The other girls groggily begin to get up after Trisha and her energetic self wake them up.
We get ready for the day and meet up with all the other cabins in the parking lot. Once we get there Trisha begins to tear up.
"Listen girls, even though you guys were terrible at waking up in the morning, I still loved being your counselor. Have a fun time back home!" She says.
We all hug her and each other as we say our goodbyes.
"I'll miss you," I say to Ada, my best friend from camp.
"I'll miss you too, Maya. Let's keep in touch?" she asks.
I agree and we exchange contact information.
We load onto the buses once they arrive. I hug Ada one last time before I get on. I sit next to Eric and look the window and wave to Ada as we pull out and begin to drive away from camp.
Just as we exit the campgrounds I see a flash of golden in the corner of my eye. Thinking it was just a flash of sun, I pay no attention to it and close my eyes for the long trip back home.
I wake up after a while after a series of bumps on the road.
"Why's the road so bumpy?" I ask Eric.
"It's because this is an old road that hasn't been patched up with tar in awhile," he answers.
I nod my head and try going back to sleep, but I can't. My stomach grumbles so I decide to search through my backpack for some sort of snack to eat. I manage to find a granola bar and begin to munch on it. It's already evening by the time we reach our final rest stop.
I hop out of the bus and head towards the bathrooms. After freshening up I head back to the vehicle but before I can take another step I feel a hand tug on my shoulder, jerking my body back a step. I yelp in surprise and whip my head around to see who it is.
Luminous golden eyes stare right back at me.
"Dr. Martin?! What are you doing here?" I question as I furrow my brows.
He ignores my questions and tilts my chin upwards, staring deep into my eyes. He leans in, bringing his face closer to mine and I feel heat rising up to my face.
"Dr. Martin-" I begin but he stops me in my tracks by stating,
"Peaceful times don't last forever. Proceed with caution,"
His eyes gleam in the setting sun, making his words seem even more profound. He sighs as he steps back, the orange colors of evening sky projecting an angelic light off of the man, making him seem ethereal.
"I'll leave it to you on interpreting my words, but I hope that you don't take them lightly. We brought you into this world for a reason, don't make us regret it."
Us? Does he work with God?
He turns his back to me, being fully enveloped by the warm light of the sunset, "Oh yeah, by the way, you can think of me as your guardian angel,"
He gives me a playful grin, his features becoming even more attractive in the golden hue before he faces forward and continues to disappear from my sight.
I stand there for a few more moments, unsure of what to make of his words. Guardian Angel? What did his words mean? Is there an upcoming war? I try racking my brain of any relevant memories of the plot of this game, but since I had played this years ago, everything is a bit muddled.
