My ankle. Now my ankle has to be affected by this poison. As I jumped, I felt a strange sensation running through my ankle. Light from the room disappeared within seconds of going into the hole. The wind whistled next to my ears, trying to catch me. However, I was too drained to will the wind to save us, so I let my body fall. Nobody screamed, probably because everyone knew it wasn’t necessary at the moment.
The fall seemed to go on forever, I think I blacked out a few times, each time waking up more tired than the last time.
“So…” Jasper’s voice echoed through the darkness, waking me up a little. “When is this gonna end?” No one answered his question.
My eyelids were nearly closing out of pain until something caught my eye. A distant shimmering yellow glow was at supposedly the bottom of this pit. So there is an end to this, but if there is...how will we survive the fall? I have to act now or else we won’t be seeing the end of this quest.
I closed my eyes and began commanding the air to catch us. As soon as I began to will the wind, a searing headache billowed up in my head. It felt like someone was jackhammering my head. I couldn’t stop now. I can’t. I won’t.
I grimaced and forced the winds to catch and hold us. The air around constricted and pulled us into a hug. It slowed our fall by a large amount. We swiftly landed on lumps of hay. I quickly made the wind disappear and let my body go limp. I felt like my insides were burning from the inside out. I closed my eyes and tried to ignore the pain and clear my head.
Suddenly I felt someone’s hand grab my arm and pull me up. I lifted my eyelids and saw Hearth, his face had a touch of concern and gratitude.
“Thank you for saving us from that fall or else we would’ve been pancaked Rems.” He chuckled a little and I did my best of a smile. He placed my arm around his shoulders, taking on some of my weight. I didn’t protest, it was futile. Jasper got up and glanced over at us before his eyes wandered to the place we were in.
Dim torches on the wall let off a dim yellowish glow wander around the dank cellar. There was these bar like structures that held a dark room back. Hearth shifted a little, gesturing that we should walk. I nodded and I began to move my feet. A bolt of fiery agony shot through my ankle as I began to walk. I stumbled and let out a noise of surprise. I bit my lip a little too hard and the taste of pennies touched my tongue.
“Breeze!” Jasper shouted and ran back to me, holding my shoulder. “Hearth, give me a piece of your clothing.” Hearth looked a little surprised but he got over it and ripped the end of his shirt, handing it to Jasper. Jasper turned back to me and began wiping the blood off my lips.
“Argh.. Jasper, you don’t need to do that-” He stopped me once again by dabbing the cloth on my bitten lip.
“Your blood is poisoned, if you ingest it, it could possibly make you even more sick.” Jasper explained as he stopped dabbing my lip. It felt dry and I was thankful for his action, “Thanks.” He nodded and threw the bloody cloth away.
“He’s right, you know?” An old crooked voice spoke from the back of the cellar. “For such a young lad, he knows a lot.”
“Who’s there?!” Hearth demanded and began to walk where the voice had come from. Only a few moments later we heard Hearth yelp. Even though brain felt like it was filled with cotton balls and my ankle was burning in fire, I quickly began to move where Hearth was. Gladly, Jasper helped me. Once my eyes finally got adjusted to the dark, I finally saw what Hearth had yelp at. A gnarled hand was gripping tightly on his forearm.
“It won’t let me go.” Hearth whispered silently to us.
“How rude are you to call me an ‘it’!” The voice screeched at us and its hand gripped even tighter on his arm, its yellow chipped nails began to dig in his skin. Hearth let out a little noise.
