Breeze

“Tag you’re it!” The boy chuckled. The grass underneath my bare feet tickled me as I screeched with laughter. I spun around, extending my hand outwards, “I am going to get you, Romare!” He grinned and sprinted off and I followed. We were in a field. There was some spread out trees, some looked old and scary, but I ignored it. Far ahead of me was Romare, taking a break near a tree. The tree had no leaves and was withering. The lumps on the tree made it seem like it had an expression of sadness. I slowed to a stop. Wait, we were not supposed to be here. Mommy always told me never to go here. A darkness sifted through the tall grass. What was that? I turned my attention back to the sad tree. A creaking sound echoed from the the trunk of the tree. Do trees make noises?

My eyes widened when I saw the trunk of the tree on a collision course towards Romare. Even at a young age, I knew if he didn’t move he would be squashed. I screamed a warning but my words didn’t reach his ears fast enough. I began to sprint towards him, thrusting out my hand, hoping he would notice me. He glanced up, his head inches from the tree hitting him. A miracle happened. When I thrusted my hand out, strong gusts of wind propelled the trunk of the tree. Everything went black.

This had happened before. On a quest, searching for someone. This quest was taking months and was slowly draining our energy. We were finally taking a break after chasing after Taye for two days. The evening air was humid and sweaty as we were resting, surrounding a little fire. I glanced worriedly at my partner and crush in this quest, Romare.

It was hard not to fall in love with his charming looks. How his chestnut brown hair swayed across his beige complexion. His honey colored eyes always seemed to sparkle whenever he did his quirky signature grin. And how his nose seemed unaffected whenever he laughed or cringed. However, for me, I was in love with his personality. Extremely ambitious whenever someone handed him a task and he certainly knew how to make the coldest person laugh. This aura always followed him which always seemed to touch others as well, if he was happy then you seem to unintentionally smile and when he isn’t it kind of quietens the mood over yours as well.

He also had both physical and characteristic faults. That small faint scar on the side of his cheek always popped out and made him look more realistic. Then, sometimes he was bit of a time freak and a bit reckless at times but hey that’s what a best friend is here for.

Taye was stronger than we had originally thought. I was able to keep up with Taye with occasional up and downs but Romare wasn’t like me. His powers were at a limit, especially since he was a Farrell Rem. I stared at him as he tended his wound. He continued working, he slightly glanced up and noticed me staring at me.

“See someone you like?” He teased, grinning a little even though that gash probably stung pretty badly.

I felt my lips go downwards instead upwards, “I’m sorry..” I whispered, finally managing the words out. I looked away and felt something wet going down my cheek. I heard shuffling and felt a displacement of air next to me. I slightly turned my head to him and saw him place a hand on my shoulder.

“Don’t be sorry. We’re a team.”

“Yeah but-”

“Hey, hey, look. If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t be here right now. Breeze, don’t always take the blame.” He placed his hand under my chin, gently making me directly into his face. A kind smile was across his face. A smile tugged at my lips.

“Thanks..”

He nodded. “You’re welcome.” Suddenly, he swiftly pecked my cheek and casually went back to his side. He settled and began to sleep.

Don’t take the blame. Don’t take the blame. He’s dead because of me. I didn’t save him in time. His cold body lying there. No. No. No. They’re dead because of you. You were a danger to him. Why didn’t you learn your lesson? Keep making mistakes. Now because you didn’t take the clues, they will all perish because of you.

WHY DIDN’T YOU LEARN YOUR LESSON?

My eyelids quickly parted. My breathing was going at a rapid pace and sweat had coated and dried on my neck. I glanced quickly all around me. I saw Hearth drooling and using Jasper’s arm as a cuddle toy. Meanwhile Jasper was fast asleep and didn’t seemed to notice that his arm was in a occupation as a plushie. I closed my eyes and calmed down my breathing. It was just a dream.

“That happens whenever you take the cure,” an abrupt voice interrupted my thoughts. I sat up and saw Saelvyre. She was staring longingly at the moon.

“What do you mean?” I narrowed my eyes at her. The tense feeling of distrust didn’t go away.

She didn’t say anything for some time before she turned her head towards me, “The cure. When one receives a blessing, one has to suffer the pain as well.” Her eyes looked at me expectantly.

I didn’t say anything. “How did you get stuck with those people?” I asked, I knew it could bring some bad memories for her but for me I needed to focus my attention elsewhere. A sad expression plastered itself on Saelvyre’s face.

“That was many, many, many years ago, child.” She sighed, “I was young. Foolish and angry. I was kicked out my home, they said I was not worthy enough. Around this time I met a person. They were exactly like me, young and angry. However, unlike me, they had plans. They planned that once they got a grip on the Human’s world, they would go after the rest of the Seven Worlds.”

I blinked, “Wait...do you mean that the Seven Worlds isn’t a fairytale?”

She shook her head. “The rest of the worlds exist, however...they are closed off now. Only a few special artifacts can reopen the gates. Since the recent changes they have grown more and more anxious to put their plan to action. I disagreed with the plan and in their eyes they saw it as a betrayal. So they threw me down into that dungeon, stripping me of my abilities. Powerless and weakening, I was easy of taking advantage...so they only kept me alive to use me.”

Compassion fluttered in my heart, “Elves need to be in the light...they knew that, didn’t they?” She nodded and sighed quietly.

“They used you…”

Saelvyre turned her head back to me, the moon illuminated half of her pale face. “Child, you left something behind…” She gestured towards my head. A little confused, I patted the top of my head, I blinked, it’s gone.

“You left it at the cellar, it was very powerful… There is no question that they are going to use it.”

I swallowed quietly, I didn’t even find out what the abilities of the helmet were. Luna didn’t look like she wanted me to have it, maybe for good reason. It could’ve possibly held dangerous abilities.

Saelvyre raised her hand, “Raqaza, you should go back to sleep.” I wanted to protest, so much was going through my mind. However, when she rose her hand a wave of sleepiness struck me.

My body betrayed my mind and layed down. I felt my eye slowly closing. I guess I could worry about things later..
