Trying to make Hearth talk was hard as trying to convince your dog to eat your veggies. Which, trust me, is really hard. He kept hiding under the blanket and telling me to leave him alone.

But I persisted. I can obviously tell by his tone how annoyed he was by me at the moment.

"C'mon, Hearth! Just tell me about you." I said as I tugged at the blanket.

"Don't you listen?!" Hearth shouted, unfortunately muffled by the blanket. "Can we go to the campfire already?"

"Not until you tell me."

He took off the blanket and threw his pillow at me. Which didn't even touch my face since as soon it was sent into the air, it was just floating there. Hearth looked at it and gave the pillow a deadpanned look.

"Seriously. Even the pillow is against me today."

I silently chuckle. Suddenly a red beam of light caught my eye. I looked over at the window and saw the sun taking its last week over the horizon.

"Well, the sun isn't against you." I finally spoke as I stood up. He perked up and looked at the window as well. A small relieved smile formed on his face.

He got up. "Lead the way."

As we approached the campfire, I saw about hundred or so kids sitting down on the benches and tables, chatting happily. All of them had plates of food as gusts of winds refilled their drinks.

Then, I noticed Breeze talking to a boy of college age. He had his cap on backwards and he had a warm toasty complexion. He had capturing hazel eyes and wavy dark hair framing his face. His posture definitely told me he was a leader of some sort. The conversation ended as soon as we walked up and I saw Breeze wearing a hard expression.

She looked over at me and gestured for us to step up on the slab before the bonfire. I can only hope they weren't planning on roasting some Jasper LeVane barbecue.

"Rems!" The college aged boy shouted as the chatting quietened down. "We have some new comrades! Now... We will see what Family they belong to!"

He dug into his bag and sprinkled is with some sort of powder.

Despite looking like harmless chalk dust, it burned onto my skin. I bit my lip to keep me from whimpering. Abruptly, a gust of wind blasted against my skin and the powder formed a picture, changing in color to a green.

The picture had swirls around a leaf like shape in the middle of it. The powder, still in its picture form, floated down to me. Unexpectedly, it pounced onto my collarbone, burning itself on to my skin. Ow.

Once the pain faded, I touched where the powder landed. My skin felt like some ink was on it.

Soon, I realized everyone was a bit too quiet considering how many kids are in one place.

I looked over at Hearty and saw he had a new red tattoo imprinted on the left side of his neck. An eye with wavy little eyes on it that resembled stretched upwards as the middle and smallest line held a dagger.

Well then.

He looked over at me and shrugged, a little confused by the silence.

The leader dude stopped staring and cleared his throat. "We'll... Rems, welcome the child of.. Kanji, the spirit of war, fire, and foresight." He pointed towards Hearth.

"Also, welcome the child of Sierra, the spirit of motherhood, nature, and earth." His tone was a bit dry but mildly surprised.

"Everyone, you can continue eating!" He said with forceful cheeriness. Everyone nodded and started eating in hushed tones.

The counselor looked over at us and his smile melted a bit. "Follow me."

We obeyed and he lead us to two desolate tables. Moss and ivy were growing wildly on the benches. I highly suspect some creepy crawlies also lurking underneath the benches.

"This will be your tables." He stopped and looked over at Breeze. "However, I suppose since there is only one of each Family, we could bend the rules."

Breeze peked up and smiled a little, "Thank you, Lynx." He smiled back, "No problem Bree!" Lynx ran off to a separate table that was nearly filled with kids about the same age as him.

"Well, flower boy, why don't you make the growth go away?" Hearth teased. Breeze nearly cracked a smile, "Boys, my table isn't overgrown, why don't we sit over there."

Why not? Thus, we walked over at her table, which in fact wasn't overgrown but spotless.

We all sat down and sudden gusts of wind served us food. I got a salad. Plus a cup of green tea. Well, now I learned that wind had a twisted sense of humor.

I looked over at Hearth and immediately was grateful that I just got a salad. Everything was splotched with hot sauce and one of the meats were on fire. He had a cup of soda in his hands, probably the only normal thing he is going to get out of his meal, which I had a live little animal trying to burrow itself out of the meat landscape.

"Gee, if this is I am going to have to eat for the rest of my life, you should've just let Taye get me." Hearth muttered loudly.

Breeze didn't look much worried, "Well, the Kawaiti usually give you food they think you'll like since you're in a certain family. When I first came here I just got an empty plate!"

"Kawaiti?" Hearth asked, tilting his head to the side as he began to sip his soda.

"Kawaiti are the servants of my father, Alako, spirit of air, wind, and bravery." Breeze explained as she began to eat her soup.

(Random unnecessary A/N: Do you eat or drink soup? Soup is liquid but contains solids so... Can anyone answer that? Okay, sorry for interrupting the story. You can go back to reading)

"And those little villages surrounding this bonfire?" I gestured towards the little round communities.

Breeze looked over at where I gestured and had a little sad gleam in her eyes. "Once you are claimed, you go to your Family's villa. Two or three people in each house. But..."

"But?" I asked, hating how people trailed off.

She looked back at me, "But since we belong to one of the rarest Families, we can't usually converse with everyone else. Our villa is far off south, at the edge of the Moon Forest."

"So not much social interaction..?" I asked and in reply she shook her head. "Well at least you have us now!"

She smiled and scooched her now empty bowl away from herself, "You should finish up, dinner time will end soon."

I looked down at my salad and green tea. I should probably eat and not go to sleep on an empty stomach.

I sipped my green tea and ate a bit of my salad. I looked over at the rather silent Hearth. He was slowly throwing the meats to the ground, probably for some animals, hoping no one would notice. I was about to tell him he was doing a horrible job of being a sly ninja until out of nowhere a person with a goat head began jumping around, ringing a bell.

It bleated loudly and everyone else seemed to get the message.

Dinner time was over.
