Sunday March 31, 2019
I woke early this morning and took a quick shower. Made breakfast for everyone so my parents could eat before leaving for the airport. I had clothes shopping to do afterwards.
My parents ate then stripped the linens off the bed and put fresh ones on. My mom was going to wash them but I told her I'd do it later.
I drove my parents back to the airport around 10. They liked to be earlier than usual.
After saying our goodbyes, I drove to the mall with Amelia.
She needed new clothes and shoes. We also needed new bath towels, how exciting.
After shopping we stopped and had a quick lunch at Chick-fil-A. She likes the nuggets.
It was 2:50pm when we left the mall. I pulled out my phone and called Kevin.
I told him I'd be home around 3:30 and he could come by when he gets home. He said he'd be there by 4. That was perfect. Gives me time to freshen up.
Amelia had fallen asleep in the car on the way home. I hated to wake her, but she couldn't sleep or she'd be up all night. I gently tapped her arm and told her we're home.
I unlocked the door and walked into the house. Something didn't seem right. There was a smell that was all too familiar.
It couldn't be!
"Honey, I'm home!"
Tony!
My heart thudded so hard I thought it would jump out of my body. I turned and yelled.
"Amelia run!"
A strong hand grabbed me as I saw Amelia run out of the house. My body went flying across the room from the force of the shove. The front door slammed and Tony lunged for me.
"I want you back." Tony said as he got close to my face with his.
I could smell the staleness on his breath. It disgusted me.
"How did you find me?"
Tony laughed. "Tapped your parents phone. So much information you can find with those."
He gripped me up by my neck and pushed me into the wall.
"I will never let you go. Remember our vows?"
"Fuck our vows you bastard." I screamed as I kneed him in the crotch. He let go of my neck and I right hooked him across the face.
Readying myself, I took stance. I remembered what Kevin had taught me.
Tony wiped the blood from his mouth and smiled.
"So someone knows how to fight now. This should be interesting."
Tony lunged for me but I moved and he hit the wall.
"Don't do this Tony. Just get out!"
Tony balled up his fist and swung. I blocked his punch and pushed him backwards.
I stood my ground as he got back up.
I heard pounding on the door and Bea yelling to open it. My concentration broke for a second, but that's all he needed. Before I knew it I was on the ground. Tony hit me and tackled me. He was on top of me with his hands around my throat. I gasped for air and scratches at his hands. Just as he was squeezing tighter I jabbed him hard in the side and he fell over. I coughed and quickly got up. I kicked him and ran for my bedroom.
I needed to get out of the house but the only way is the front door or back door. I was stuck. I needed a weapon. I looked around my room. I didn't have weapons. I'm not that kind of person. Just then I remembered the metal nail file I have in the bathroom drawer. I ran for it as my bedroom door was bashed in. I opened the drawer and grabbed the file as the back of my hair was pulled hard.
Tonys hand pushed my head right into the mirror and it shattered. I fell to the bathroom floor. My forehead was cut and blood was coming out. I felt dizzy.
Tony grabbed me and turned me on my back.
I laid there in a daze looking up at him.
"This is all your fault. I love you Cara. So why make me hurt you?"
Tony bent down and grabbed broken mirror. It reminded me of his surprise party all over again. He put the broken mirror up to my neck and pushed lightly.
"Cara my love, till death do us part."
I still had the file in my right hand. He was close. I could do it. To save my life. I can. I must.
With one quick move my right hand came up and the file went into his throat.
Tony's hand slipped and the mirror nicked me. He dropped it and grabbed at his throat. His eyes were wide open. He was in shock. His hand found the file and he pulled it out. Blood spurted out all over and he gurgled. I scrambled back into the corner as he gasped. He tried to get up but was slipping on his blood. He looked at me with cold eyes like I was the monster. Tony reached out his hand for me then his body collapsed on the floor. He wasn't moving. I waited a few minutes before I was able to stand up. I carefully walked over, trying not to step in blood. Tony was laying face down in his own blood, his eyes wide open. He wasn't moving.
I ran from the bathroom through the bedroom and out the front door. Bea was holding onto Amelia who was crying and Kevin was running for me. I felt my body hit the grass and everything was black. I don't remember anything after that until I woke up, in the hospital.

Monday April 1, 2019.
When my eyes opened Kevin was by my side. My neck and face were sore. I must look a mess.
"Hey. Welcome back." Kevin said as he kissed my right cheek. That was the side of my face that was never sore. Not with Tony's hard right hand.
"Where's Amelia?"
"With my mom. Don't worry."
I closed my eyes in relief. Then opened them quickly.
"Tony!" I yelled.
Kevin rubbed my hand.
"It's over now. He can't hurt you anymore."
"They got him?" I questioned.
Kevin furrowed his brow. And took a deep breath.
"You may have been in shock, but Cara, you got him. Tony's dead."
My eyes teared and I smiled.
For this was the moment I was finally free for the first time in 10 years.
I cried. Not sad tears but happy ones. My life can finally begin!
