With each passing minute the hot little droplets seemed to be blending in with her body temperature making her skin feel dead. She has been standing underneath the faucet for more that thirty minutes.

Her body was there but her mind was light years away, roaming the events of her traumatic past. Its been close to two years now and still the memories of her past still haunted her and there was nothing she could do to erase them from her mind.

She had brought this upon herself, that's what she constantly kept telling herself and so she had to endure it like everyone else had endured her recklessness and absurd behavior.

After coming back to reality she got out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around her body. She went into her bedroom and sat on the neatly made bed. She took a deep breath, looking around the spacious room and how it's emptiness reflected her own life. And it seemed to be better that way, that she had nothing to cherish and hold onto so she won't have to experience the pain and heartache of losing it. She then got up and prepared for the day ahead. It was one of the four days she didn't work from home and had to go into the office. She changed into one of her many work dresses and black heels before she sat down in front of her mirror and put on some make up. Finishing up she grabbed her laptop and keys and then took one last look in the mirror taking in a deep breath before heading out.

From her flat to her car it was the usual routine of passing a few other tenants such as MamGrace, preaching to two people by her bible stand. She had loudly greeted her but she just smiled and moved along. She then walked pass Bra Zakes and his new girlfriend arguing by the lobby. There was something unsettling and shady about him and the way he changed women constantly, but she tried not to bother herself about it too much.

She sighed a breath of relief as she got into her car without running into Lucy, the gossip queen of the building. Lucy seemed to know more about the happenings in other people's lives than her own as her boyfriend seemed to be getting too cosy with the plumber from time to time. Lucy always shared whatever gossip she had with her no matter how much Sthandiwe tried to decline  in hearing about it.

Sthandiwe's been living in that flat for eighteen weeks and she was always so informed of the happenings of that building all thanks to Lucy. MamGrace had been preaching that the end of the world was near because of all the natural disasters that have been taking place all over the world. While Bra Zakes has been hosting secret poker games at night, while changing women more times that he would change his underwear in a week. Despite her choice to keep to herself, she knew a lot more about the other tenants than they did about her.

Her mother had discouraged her against living there because of the drama and people. But she was so desperate to be by herself and move out of her parents house that she didn't mind at all. She was desperate for a change of environment and she just mostly kept to herself, staying in her apartment all day and left when she went to work, shopping or to visit her parents.

While driving her phone rang and her mother's name flashed on the screen.
"Morning Mom,"she said.

"Morning my dear how are you?" asked her mother like the past previous mornings she had ever since she moved out.
"I'm doing fine Mom,"she lied."how are you? "
Of course she wasn't okay she hasn't been okay for a long time, but that was something she kept to herself to avoid any further attention from her mother

"I'm alright my dear...so Lerato is having a party to celebrate her mother in law's birthday this weekend," explained her mother. "She wanted to know if you wanted to come?"

"Sorry Mom, I won't be able to make it," she lied again. "I have a lot of work to do."

"Ah Sthandiwe my child, you're always busy, drowning yourself with work it's not healthy," she heard her mother in disappointedly. She just kept quiet and didn't say anything in her defense.
