Only five minutes were left until her date but Sthandiwe was ready. She sighed a breath of relief satisfied with her look and surprised that she was able to get ready in such a short span of time. She was anxious before at the thought of her date with Kabelo and her anxiety got a lot worse when all those last minute errands kept popping up out of the blue.
But luckily she completed each and everyone of them and she was able to get back to her apartment with enough time to take a shower and get ready. She thought of putting on make up like Dineo had suggested but decided against.Even though Dineo had told her to take a thirty minute long bubble bath to calm her nerves and spend an hour to make sure everything was perfect.Sthandiwe was satisfied with how she looked with the little time she had to get ready.
Kabelo was just as pleased by her looks when he saw her.Although she had known him for a short while she felt like she could trust his words. He seemed like an openly honest guy who meant every word he uttered towards her. He took her to a beautiful classy restaurant in a hotel and they were seated in the corner of the restaurant close to the window. Although they were only on the third floor she could see the hooded sky with the moon behind the clouds cool and breezy. As cool and calm as the evening was Sthandiwe
"So tell me about yourself..." said Kabelo as they sat at their table after they ordered their meal. The place was classy and modern with couples and business associates surrounding them.
"Well what's there to tell...how about you tell me more about you." Sthandiwe said following the girls advice.
"Ohh really...what do you want to know?" he asked smilling at her.
"Well for starters your work..."
"What about it?" asked Kabelo thoroughly amused by what she just said. " Did you always want to be a policeman?" she asked and Kabelo grinned.
"Honestly speaking no,growing up I never wanted to be a policeman." he replied.
"Really...then how did you end up being one then?" she asked taking a sip of her wine trying hard not to seem nervous." Well as you grow up and mature you start to see things differently from when you were you were young." Kabelo replied.
"That's interesting...so what changed your views about it?""Mostly the thrills and chills of chasing bad guys and having my own gun..."he said spontaneously wiggling his eyebrows and they both laughed."That's nice...so has it been hard for you to get to where you are?" she continued seemingly relaxing and calming down.
"Yes yes it has..."Kabelo said."Can we please talk about something else because I feel like I'm on a job interview..."he place his hands on the table and she blushed in embarrassment,"my palms are sweating...""I'm sorry...it's just that I haven't done this in a while...." she said.
"I can tell," he chuckled "...but don't worry it's not a bad thing trust me." he assured her.She sighed a breath of relief feeling more comfortable by the minute." Okay...so what do we do...?" she asked.
"We just talk about our hobbies, interests, the simple stuff..."he said with a reassuring smile calming her instantly. "What about your family?" he asked and she felt something in her calm down and relax as she wasn't expecting that. She looked at him in the eyes that promised her that everything was going to be alright.
"My family...well I have an older sister Dineo who was born to embarrass me..." she said and he laughed a little as they both remembered the day he came to her office."I remember her..." he nodded.
"Then there is my mum who was a teacher she just retired a month ago..." she breathed in and smiled at him. "And my father is a dentist and every year we make it a point to have one or two family gatherings or outings to strengthen our bond as a family and I grew up believing in the magic of rainbows and shooting stars..."she felt a bit embarrassed at the last part. But he just seemed amused by it and smiled. "We are just your average close family."
"That's great...well as for me I grew up obsessed with space..."he said causing her to giggle and the sound of her laughter warmed him up.
"That's cute..."she smiled.
"Well so was I..." he said and she smiled. She tried to imagine him as a nine year old in an astronaut costume and compared that to the now grown up irresistibly dashing detective and the images sent tingles down her spine.
