The cupboard that Junux had shoved me in smelt. Smelt of what, I don't know. It just smelt horrible.
Every few minutes, heavy footsteps would pass the cupboard door and we would both stop breathing in fear of being found.
I was sat behind Junux and watched her as she listened out for any tell tale signs that whoever the footsteps belonged to had gone.
I tried not to get distracted, but my eyes kept on following the curve of Junux's neck, my heart kept on beating faster whenever I looked at her, and I kept on thinking about things that would never happen with us.
Stop it, Myope, I thought to myself, you already have a boyfriend.
But another, quieter voice in the back of my mind kept on whispering otherwise.
"Come on, Ca - Myope," Junux whispered, "I think the coast is clear."
I nodded and we both silently emerged from the smelly cupboard. To say that the restaurant was a mess would be the understatement of the century.
The tables were tipped over. Glass was all over the floor. The windows were smashed. Chairs had been pulverized. The floor was littered with bodies.
My eyes scanned the floor for Rizx. I kept on searching until I saw his body slumped in a dark corner.
I made a sound and ran over to him.
Blood was pooling beneath him and was staining his lovely green, checked shirt he wore especially for me.
It was my fault he died. I didn't grab him when Junux grabbed me.
No. Not my fault.
I span around and stormed over to Junux.
Soon she was on the floor clenching her jaw in pain.
"WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT FOR?!" She yelled after her pain from the punch had subdued.
I just glared at her angrily and gestured at Rizx's slumped body in the corner.
"Oh," Junux sassed sassily, "was I meant to save your stupid boyfriend from the thugs that are after you?"
My fist was soon connected to her face again. And again. And again.
It was her fault he was dead. She didn't give me time to grab him. He's dead because of Junux. She didn't kill him directly, but she let them kill him.
Suddenly there was a quiet crack and a groan. Then silence.
I stopped with my fist in mid-air. Junux's face was bloodied. Her nose was jutting out at an odd angle. Her jaw was askew and blood was dripping out of her mouth.
My bloodied hand rose and covered my mouth in shock.
I had done this.
I had killed Junux.
