The week went by quickly and before I knew it, it was time for the dreaded, school. Alicia picked me up at seven fourty-five, dropped me in the principal's office, glared at me then left without a word. I guess she didn't like me.
The secretary, a pretty brunette with grey eyes called Kira handed me my schedule and a school map with a mischevious smile told me to wait because she had someone who could show me around.
"Erin this is Chase Morris," she said pointing at a boy who just exited the principal's private office. It was none other than the Starbucks guy.
"Go on," Kira encouraged.
"Hi," I said flatly, "nice to meet you."
"Likewise," he mumbled.
"Well, Erin," Kira started, "since Chase has the same morning classes-"
Chase cleared his throat interrupting her.
"Most of the same morning classes," she corrected, " he will be showing you around the school until you know your way around it well enough. You wouldn't need him after lunch though because we have general assembly in the auditorium.
"Um Kira," I asked looking down at my schedule, " what about homeroom?"
Chase chuckled, "We're almost into second period."
"What!"
"Yeah, but we're not doing anything because of the lost souls, err... freshmen are still cluttering, uh... crouding the hallway so it makes it hard to move around."
"Uh huh," I mumbled digesting this new piece of information.
"Don't act so high and mighty now that you're a senior." Kira said getting up from her desk and walking around it to where we stood, "I remember you coming to me after your first day of school because none of your friends were in the same class as you."
Chase glared at her but she continued talking.
"And that night Nate came home drunk in only his boxers holding a half opened pack of skittles."
We all burst out laughing, yes, even Chase. Kira continued telling us embarrassing stories about Mr Morris, most of which already knew because he was present in some way when that happened. I learned that Kira and Mr. Morris didn't really work at this school. Kira was a fashion designer and Mr Morris was an engineer. The Physics teacher before was diagnosed with cancer and Mr Morris was filling in for him for some of the time, the previous secretary was on maternity leave so Kira took the opportunity to research high school students style for her new designs.
We were seated on the floor when Mr Morris rushed in and started looking frantically for someone or thing. He dug through Kira's desk, stole a packet of cookies and pocketed them. Kira gasped at him selling out our position on the floor. Mr Morris glared in our direction and marched over. When he reached over he stooped down until he was at the same eye level as Chase and in a dangerous growl asked.
"Where is it?"
