Duty calls

Once you had arrived at the dining hall, you caught sight of the pharaoh, quietly eating amongst himself. It was strange. He was surrounded by many people, yet, he mainly kept to himself. He seemed pretty reserved now that you thought about it. You decided to greet him,

"Good morning my pharaoh! Did you sleep well?"

Atem looked up at the sudden sound of your voice. He shot you a slight smile,

"Calixta it is nice to see you. Are you prepared for today?"

The pharaoh was suddenly in such good spirits, you couldn't help but feel suspicious,

"Depends on what you have prepared for me"

He couldn't help but chuckle at your behavior,

"It is nothing too serious, but duty does call"

"Of course my pharaoh"

"Now that you are present, there are people I would like you to meet"

The Pharaoh introduced you to the council. You kindly introduced yourself to each of them and thanked them for their hard work using the Millenium pieces.

"The council will often be with me in the throne room. If you have any emergencies, look for me in the throne room. Besides that, please do not disrupt my affairs and meetings as these are very important"

You nodded your head at the king,

"Of course my pharaoh"

Atem stared at you after you spoke. A silent pause took over until you realized what was wrong,

"O-Oh! Of course Atem"

The king smiled slightly, clearly amused. He was really starting to enjoy your presence. You made him feel happy.

For the next hour, Atem informed you of your duties as a palace guard. You made sure to carefully listen to everything he said. After eating, you finally went off to carry out your duties.

"Calixta, where are you going?"

You turned around to look at the pharaoh,

"Well, I was heading off to accomplish my duties, I noticed the front half of the palace had fewer guards than any other side. As I was not given a specific area, I decided to begin there"

Atem looked at you, impressed by your observations and intelligence,

"As much as that would be smart to do, I prefer you not to",

You bowed before your king,

"My pharaoh please do not take this as me
disrespecting you, but may I ask why?"

The Pharaoh's eyes glinted in the light making him look like a god. Once more, he allowed his baritone voice to be heard,

"Your area is here by my side"

You almost exploded from shock right then and there. What does he mean by that? The king always held a poker face. It was difficult to tell how he felt or what he was thinking. It honestly scared you a bit.

You realized you must've been over thinking. You decided to ask what him what he suggested,

"What do you mean my pharaoh?"

"Your area of guarding is in the throne room, beside me. You are the royal guard"

You stood before the king a bit speechless. You wondered, how could you be the royal guard on your first day? Instead of questioning it, you decided to accept it knowing you'll figure it out later.
