Rysen paced the living room, waiting. It was two in the morning now, and there was no sign of Elena coming home. The storm was still going strong even now as Harry and Chase were driving around looking for her. He'd decided to stay at the house in case she comes home but after almost two hours the worry had already set in and Rysen couldn't stop himself from pacing anxiously. His parents were gone for the next few days on a trip to meet with another gang, giving him the chance to really be alone with Elena again and fix things.
'I can't do this anymore...I just can't.' The words Elena had spoke to him hours ago made his chest throb. His phone rang and he answered.
"Did you find her?" he asked Chase quickly.
"No, she's no where around where the party was. Where would she go?"
"I don't know okay, she-she doesn't have anywhere to go." he said with a sigh.
"I don't know where else to look Rysen." Chase said. He couldn't stand it anymore.
"Ahh screw this." Rysen responded as he grabbed his jacket. He couldn't just stay in the house doing nothing while Elena was out in the storm. Anything could happen to her and he could never forgive himself if something happened to her ever again.
"I'm going to go looking on foot." hegrabbed his keys and opened the door.
"Just keep looking, she has to be so-" He stopped mid-sentence his body freezing.
There she was, rain pounding into her hunched form. Her head turned up and their eyes connected.
"Elena." he breathed, the pain in his chest releasing just the slightest. "She came back to the house." was all he said before he hung up and hurriedly reached out to help her inside. The moment he touched her however, she pulled away and walked inside, water dripping from her clothes. She dropped something by the door and noticed they were her heels. He looked down and saw her feet were bare and dirty. How long had she walked like that? How far?
"Elena. Hey. Elena." he followed her as she ignored him and walked upstairs.
"Elena you can't keep ignoring me like this, we need to talk. Elena. Elena!" he grabbed her arm to stop her.
That seemed not to be the best decision.
She turned then, anger in her now teary eyes.
"Leave. Me. Alone." she said. Then he heard a soft growl and noticed the her jacket was bundled in her arms and moving. Then it shifted and he saw the small animal.
"What the he-" but he was cut off.
"Elena!" he heard Chase and Harry behind him as they ran in front of him and hugged Elena.
"Where were you? We were so worried." Harry said. The little animal whimpered then. The guys pulled back.
"What the heck is that?" Chase asked. Elena uncovered the small, malnourished animal, petting it on the head gently.
"I found him all alone. I'm going to bathe him...and take care of him. I think he was a stray. Poor thing." she said, her voice soft as she turned and entered the bathroom, turning on the bath faucet.
"Chase can you please get me a towel? Harry can you get me a cup to clean him please?" she asked.
"Of course." they both responded and dispersed. Rysen stepped into the bathroom.
"Is there anything I can do to help?" he asked.
"No thank you." Elena responded, exhausted. Rysen didn't know what to do, so he just stepped back and watched the Chase and Harry come back with the items requested and helped her clean the pup. When she finished, she wrapped the pup into the towel and walked out, straight past him, and into his sister's old room.
He felt a hand on his shoulder and turned to find Chase and Harry standing there, anger evident on their faces.
"I'm tired of this." Chase said.
"Simple question Rysen," Harry started, "do you care for Elena as anything more than an object?" Rysen frowned.
"Of course I do, what the hell kind of question is that?" Rysen asked, irritated.
"The kind that needed to be asked." Chase said. "Another one coming at you. Do you like Elena?" Rysen didn't understand where they were going with this. He shook off Chase's hand and turned to them.
"Of course I do."
"Do you want her as someone more than a secret keeper?" Harry asked.
"What are you guys getting at?" Rysen asked angrily.
"Oh my fu-Rysen do you want her to be your real girlfriend or not? How hard is this to understand?" Chase asked. Rysen paused. Like a light bulb in his idiotic brain he realized that that was exactly what he wanted. His shoulders sagged and he sighed.
"Shit." he muttered.
"You finally understand what you want?" Harry asked gruffly. Rysen nodded.
"Then. Fix. It." Chase said as they both walked away and down the stairs, the faint sound of the door closing behind them following.
Rysen looked at the door Elena walked through and decided to give it another shot. Taking a deep breath, Rysen walked up to the door and knocked on it gently.
"Elena?" no response.
"Elena, please, can we talk for a minute?" he knocked once more and the door creaked open. She must not have closed it all the way. Thats when he saw her in bed. She was laying on top of the blankets, wearing pink pajama bottoms and a t-shirt. Her arm was wrapped over the small puppy as they slept. Rysen smiled, feeling his chest tighten painfully. Trying to talk to her would have to wait until tomorrow. He walked over to her, leaned down, and kissed her forehead gently before taking a throw blanket from the bottom of the bed and pulling it over the pair.
"I'm sorry Elena. I promise I'll fix this." he whispered before he turned and left the bedroom, closing the door softly behind him.
"Yeah, I'll fix it." he muttered to himself before heading to his own bedroom for the night.
He would need the rest for what he was going to try to face tomorrow.
