“No!” I cried as Alex plunged the stake into Mila's heart. Instead of turning into a pile of ash like most T.V shows, movies, and books said, Mila just fell to the ground like a regular human would if they were stabbed.
Alex stepped back from Mila's body, blood on her hands, leaving the stake in her chest. Alex looked to me, her eyes clouded. “Now it's just us. The way it should be.”
I shook my head. “Alex, what have you done?”
She looked at me, confused. “What do you mean? I just saved your life! I saved the townspeople's lives!”
“You just killed someone!” I shouted. “You murdered my fiancé for Christ's sake!”
“She murdered Matt!” Alex exclaimed, pointing to Matt's dead body, a snapped tree branch at his feet.
“He grabbed her! When I threw him back, he cut himself and started to bleed! Mila couldn't handle it! She's been in the crypt for the past hundred and twenty years!”
“She's still guilty.”
Alex turned and started walking away. I clenched my jaw and fist, and then called after Alex; “Just like you?”
Alex stopped and turned around. She was just about to say something, when a white wolf tackled her. Alex's screams rang out, then the sound of the wolf eating...
I ran over to Mila's body, completely forgetting about Crazy Alex for a second. I knelt down beside her and pulled out the stake from her chest. Blood sputtered from the wound, and I put my hand over it to stop the blood from spilling, too much. Then, I pulled out my Swiss Army pocket knife from my picket and dug at my wrist.
The blood from my wrist started to drip down. I lowered my wrist to Mila's mouth, and let the drops travel down her throat. I smiled a bit as I saw Mila move and shift, allowing more of my blood to flow down her throat. Blood soon coated her lips, and the open wound under my hand started to seal up and heal.
Mila started coughing, and I pulled my wrist away from her mouth and helped her sit up. She sat back against my arm, and then opened her eyes. I smiled when I saw the familiar blue of her eyes.
“Hey, beautiful...” I whispered, still smiling.
She smiled back at me. “Hey yourself.”
I kissed her gently, then more passionately and harder as Mila brought me closer to her. She stifled back a moan, and I kissed the scar on her neck, then the healing scar on her chest.
A wolf howled from nearby, probably the same one that attacked Alex, and Mila and I broke away, breathing heavily. Mila looked around. “What happened to Alex?”
I nodded my head back towards the woods. “She was walking back that way and a white wolf attacked her.”
Mila smiled shyly. “You mean that wolf standing behind you?”
I jumped and looked behind me. Sure enough, there sat the big white wolf, fresh blood dripping from its muzzle, wagging its tail and panting like a puppy. “Yup, that's the wolf.”
Mila laughed at my reaction, and then called to the wolf. “Brutas, come here boy.”
The wolf trotted over to us, laid his head down in Mila's lap, and looked up at her with big, brown eyes. Mila petted him gently, then looked to me and beckoned me forward. “Come here, Emmerson. Brutas is as gentle as a puppy.”
Hesitantly, I re-approached the wolf as he rolled over onto his side, allowing more of himself to be petted. I petted him gently, following Mila's hand.
She smiled as Brutas rolled over once more, his big brown eyes falling on me. She stroked my cheek with her free hand. “He likes you.”
I smiled, stood up, then helped Mila up as Brustas stood in front of us and whimpered. “I think he just likes you, not I. Mila, darling, if you want...we can bring Brustas home with us.”
Mila's eyes lit up like a Pine Tree on Christmas. “You mean it!?”
I smiled, took Mila in my arms, and kissed her gently again. “Yeah, I mean it sweetheart. You want him with us...then he can come with us.”
She grinned, kissed me once more, then bent down and lifted the massive wolf as if it weighted nothing more than a kitten, or a new born babe. I guess vampire strength comes in handy for that.
I put my arm around Mila's waist and walked with her, and Brutas, back to my truck. I opened the passenger door and helped Mila move Brutas to the back, then helped her into the truck. I closed the door, hoped into my own seat, and started up the truck.
Ever since I was eight, I never thought I'd meet anyone that I'd fall in love with. But then...I met Mila. And now, my heart and soul are in her hands, now and forever more.
